realmin's team is extra scary considering Stanton has done squat for him and Dickey is due for a massive ship righting. Also, to a lesser degree, Hanley is still something.

Miguel Cabrera's raw is pretty underrated. The fat dude regularly hits low line drives for right CF dingers. With identical contact, most other power guys can barely split the gap for two bases. If he had an all or nothing approach, he would probably hit them as far as anybody.

Well, at least KL still believes in Zunino. Another HR tonight, no strikeouts. He might be getting better. Age vs. level is still very good. I guess even if he's just a slightly better version of JPA, that's not the worst thing ever in a dynasty league.

Buck WAR/120G = 1.25 JPA WAR/120G = 0.75 JPA is 27 years old. He's not really a "prospect" / future / upside play anymore. He is what he is, and a case can be made that fWAR actually overrates him.

And then we can go back to the wonderfully factual overarching point that the Blue Jays never shouldve been pushed into "win now" mode to begin with. AA made a bad decision to begin with, and then he confounded it by executing his ill advised course of action poorly.

I don't think Halladay ever said "Philly". He just wanted to get traded to a contender. You could say similar things about Dickey. The deal was contingent on an extension, and he was only gonna sign one with certain teams. To say that Anthopoulos didn't have any leverage is fallacious. He had the best pitcher in baseball to shop. That's plenty of leverage right there.

Just the value of the prospect package, in context. i.e. the Jays paid more for old man Dickey than the Phillies paid for a *basically* prime Halladay. I'm probably wrong though. I have no idea how highly regarded Taylor was.

I don't know. A small portion. But the ones that do tend to be pretty f***ing good. The lottery ticket has value. d'Arnaud was the meat and potatoes of it anyway. Syndergaard was just a really nice looking side dish. He's grilled Zucchini.

Without crunching the numbers, d'Arnaud+Syndergaard seems like more value than what they got for Halladay.

As opposed to selling after the deadline? Probably. It's a moot point though. Everyone except JJ is still here next year. They'll just chalk it up to "bad luck" or whatever, and give the ugly can another kick in 2014. Replacing Johnson with one of Hutch, Nolin. Or Sanchez in May, cuz Blue Jays.

I still think Dickey turns it around. Something is way off with the guy. They don't even look like knuckleballs half the time... it's like he's just lobbing changeups in there all day.

RA Dickey is pitching barely better than replacement level. We traded Travis d'Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard for him. That's a top ~20 position prospect and a top ~50 pitching prospect. Syndergaard has a 2.35 FIP in A+ and is getting excellent reviews. He's striking out more hitters and walking less hitters than Aaron Sanchez is at the same level. d'Arnaud is hurt right now, obviously, but Arencibia has a .299 wOBA and continues to be an arrogant, replacement level scrub. Sad NJH is sad At least Wojo's AAA promotion is off to a rocky start, Hech is hitting like a girl, Marisnick is whiffing a lot, and Hendo's arm exploded.

They could conceivably bring him back and give him a 90 pitch cap. I mean, why not? Desperation is the only sensible route at this point. They've backed themselves into this corner with no depth, now they need to do what they need to do. Too much invested in this season.

It's definitely a natural disagreement. You can tell that Dirk has only recently immersed himself into the world of sensible baseball statistics, but that's fine. He's getting better. I really like having him on the airwaves, the pregame and that Baseball Central thing. I don't think it really perturbs Zaun either. He's the competitive jock type, so he probably likes to argue on the air, and in his mind he's always right so it doesn't really matter what Dirk says.
