Someone ask Cox what he thinks of the Corsi nerds now?
  2. The Blue Jays didn't even want him in that trade though. The Reds forced them to take Edwin to make the trade work (salaries and s***).
  3. Interesting tidbit from the Edwin feature on Sportsnet today - AA says that the Blue Jays didn't even want him included in the Rolen trade. They fought to not have to take Edwin on, but the Reds insisted on it to make the salaries and everything balance out. I was always under the impression that at the time of the trade to acquire him they at least kind of liked something in his skillset (even if he turned into 3B poop and they ended up DFA-ing him down the road).
  4. Hey guys, remember when two garbage utility guys and DFA candidate cast-offs turned into HR monsters for us? That was fun.
  5. ZiPS and Steamer both project nearly 3 WAR in ~400 PA. Those projection systems would take into account the small major league sample size in 2013. His minor league peripherals would still be pretty big factors in those.
  6. Yan Gomes is a monument towards the ignorance of the Blue Jays FO! (watch him hit like a backup this year now)
  7. It really does. I needed a 1B and my offense really needed counting stats. Dinger needed a dynasty 2B for reasons already outlined. Sorry guys. Hopefully Cano is a few years older than his listed age, and he gets Safeco'd pretty hard. Also, surprisingly, only two other teams even inquired about Cano.
  8. Even if he is mostly 2012 Davis, I won't really be gutted. That guy hit .270 with a .231 ISO!
  9. Excellent! This is like Fielder for Kinsler, on steroids.
  10. Oddorizzi is at least interesting. I could see him and Melky returning some real value for you at midseason.
  11. Fielding actual offers for Robert Canoe. Preference toward MLB players but open minded. Not looking for picks or far off prospects. Will do a one for one for anothet bat where I need it, or an elite SP.
  12. Did someone say shoulder inflammation? Yikes.

What do advanced stats have to do with Phanuef being an immobile defensive hack with a glaringly low hockey IQ who has been grossly miscast as a top pairing defenseman? I know next to nothing about new age hockey stats, but I've thought Phanuef was a piece of garbage for years. He can barely skate anymore.

They don't give the Stanley Cup to the team with the most shots, nerd.

What type of coach in their right mind lets Dion Phanuef kill penalties? How do so many hockey people watch Dion Phanuef play on a regular basis without realizing that he's absolutely a piece of garbage?

22-6 with 2.22 left. Odds that STL in the first period will get more shots than Toronto all game?

Hockey Scouting: St Louis is a lot better than Toronto.
  21. Lots of people wanted him as a big buy low before he went to Seattle.
  22. The "Around Baseball" thread fanboyism runs deep here. Not everything has to be dumped in there.
  23. His MLB ZiPS projection is actually pretty good: 7.15 ERA / 6.58 FIP / -1.4 fWAR Looking forward to seeing what he can do this summer, when he gets 15+ starts!
  24. The point isn't that being a baseball data analyst is a dream job The point is that JFaS will probably end up as one, because he's good at it, and most of the people disagreeing with him in this thread..... aren't. If you look to your left, you can see the graveyard of baseball players that ECJF thought were good. If you look to your right, you can see dozens of posters agreeing with his opinion on player talent. Hmmm.
  25. The signal and the noise. JFaS has earplugs from erudition and he'll likely be a front office analyst in a few years (if that's what he wants); the rest of you are just fans.
