DDL History Lesson. June 17th-20th, 2013. The greatest minor league draft round by a single owner in DDL history. On June 17th at 1:58 pm, The True Cardinals select Danny Salazar in the 5th round of the June draft, 82nd overall. On June 20th at 4:54 am, The True Cardinals select Mookie Betts in the 5th round of the June draft, 100th overall. The True Cardinals no longer own either player, but that round will forever live in our history.

Moore will only be 12 months from TJS at the end of April. Would have to be a perfect recovery and no other injuries in the rotation for Colome to not get a decent look. I think.

With the Hellickson trade, looks like Alex Colome has a rotation spot. Guy has some s*** but he's reaching the majors as a fairly raw talent, not unlike Archer. Any takers?

Chase is a top 5 park for hitting. The Trop is bottom 5. Huge swing! Honestly like moving from Petco to Yankee Stadium. Yeah he gets At&T, Petco, and Dodger Stadium on the road, but he also gets Coors lmao.

Hellickson is a POS - probably worse than Happ - and Justin Williams is a guy who has hit .351 in the minors + is supposed to have like, 70 grade raw power (that hasn't shown up in games yet, obviously).

wow, it really sounded like he'd retire. A 6th round pick for one year of Burnett should be a coup, even if he is 38. + he's heading back to Pitt where he had so much success. Also, the Rays just traded for Justin Williams so maybe he doesn't suck. Boxy u mad?

Altuve's age vs. level was a notch better. Slashlines and peripherals are eerily similar. Travis seems to have better over-the-fence pop, probably by a grade. Altuve's speed is better by probably ~2 scouting grades. The BABIP difference is probably due to that, but it's possible that Altuve is a better line drive hitter too.

He's probably like a 4 or 5 win upgrade on Navarro. Would be pretty huge... Actually, you could probably sign any other free agent and not get a 5 win upgrade. Any of the big ticket SP would only project to be maybe a 2-3 win upgrade on poo like Happ. Hanley and Sandoval only project to be 3.3 and 3.8 win players (so you'd have to assume the Blue Jays 2B is about well below replacement for them to be equivalent upgrades). Martin projects for 3.2 with no framing, and he's likely a +15 or +20 framer. (Navarro projects for 1.6 wins but he's on the complete opposite end of the framing spectrum). And obviously Martin could cost half as much as all those names. + Canadian

And on the flip side.... The Blue Jays might not have a large, productive, and highly controllable "core", but they do have a LOT of future payroll flexibility, which is a very good thing. Just look at this image. Toronto has significantly less longterm payroll commitments than teams like Seattle, Texas, Cincinnati, New York, Atlanta, Boston, Colorado, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Philadelphia, other New York, and both Chicagos. I think you'd have to agree that talent-wise, in the immediate future, the Blue Jays are as good as or better than (almost?) all of those teams. So while Toronto might not have a 5 year core, what they do have is a pretty talented short term team that carries almost no significant burden of commitment. That's f***ing good! What is Romo looking for? Him and Grilli could actually be decent gets, coming off of "down" (unlucky?) years.

I'd actually be pretty cool with Goins as the backup SS. Eye test says that he's an easy +10 or +15 2B so you'd have to assume that he's at least an average SS. And I agree with what you said earlier about getting more CF/2B depth and starting Pompey and Travis in AAA. I think the best thing to do is attempt to acquire a couple of cheap platoon players for each position, that you could milk a month or two of solid platoony production out of to start he year. Get a left handed 2B that could platoon with Izturis out of the gate, and if Travis forces his way up but struggles with arm-side pitching, you'd have that platoon option in house. Same with CF and Pillar. Get a platoon to start the year and save money. Ideally in the OF there is a fluid situation where some combination of new guy + Pillar + Dirks + Mayberry could form a competent platoon in LF if Pompey forces his way up, and cover Pompey vs. a certain handedness of pitching if he starts struggling against it. And if you go with a pair of cheap platoony dudes, then if Travis or Pompey come into spring training and play like big boys, there's nothing really in their way.

Better than those guys, but still just the Jays 6th best positional player, behind: Bautista Edwin Lawrie Reyes Martin The Steamer offense should be deep, especially if they can get rid of both Navarro and Thole and clean up LF/DH in some smart way. The Steamer World Series will be ours!
