For a catcher with supposed superior game calling skills, that 1-2 pitch call to Hayes was dumb. Ryu's fastball maxes out at 90-91 and a high fastball should be used as a show me, not a put away pitch with two strikes.
I don't think you can do a cornerstone player in Bichette like that mid season, it'll leave a bad taste. Shatkins has no choice but to ride out Bo this year at SS and then reevaluate in the off season.
Not worth whatever assets they will want back since he's a free agent this year. We can sign him as a free agent without giving anything up and just ride Bo at SS for the rest of the year and see what happens.
I think Shatkins should shop one of Jansen/McGuire for a high leverage pen arm with some control left.
Maybe to the Pirates for Richard Rodriguez? He turned 31 this year but has a good 3-4 years left and is entering arb1 status after this season.
The Pirates aren't getting anything from their catchers.
"If" you remove McGuire's offense? That's like what "if" Jansen's defense declines, what do you got? Obviously both of them are behind Kirk and Moreno will be here soon.
I think it's way too premature to say that McGuire's pitch calling is not even close to Jansen's. Jansen should be a better pitch caller by default given the time he's had to become familiar with all the hitters around the league.
You haven't noticed the major improvement in McGuire's game calling now that he's playing more and being more familiar with all the pitchers? If McGuire was given the same amount of rope that Jansen was given, there wouldn't even be a conversation. The only defensive aspect that Jansen is better at as of now is blocking.
