Yeah that’s fair. But i’d rather do Jansen for Grisham and then pick up Conforto or something. 3 yrs control on Grisham gives us time to find a better CF. Instead of paying Bellinger 10 mil to likely suck, and you’re in the same situation trying to find a CF for 2024.

Also he’s a LHH and plays CF. Lots to like. 2022 was ugly for him though… no guarantees he bounces back. Still worth a shot though if that deal is available IMO. Lots of people here wanting to pay Bellinger 10+ mil and he’s been WORSE with the bat over the past 2 years.

122 wRC+ in 2020 and 103 in 2021. He is projected for 106 wRC+ in 2023. He can be a league average bat with great defense.

Grisham sucked ass with the bat all year in 2022 and still managed to produce 2+ WAR. He should rebound to around league average I think, but maybe not. Projections think yes. Grisham for Jansen is a fair trade IMO

And previous years?? Come on dude… you can’t just look at 2022 and compare the two. Both are projected for roughly the same WAR over 120ish games (Grisham 2.5 to Jansen 2.9)

Fairly, yes. I think playing on a bad foot for the last few weeks tanked his defensive numbers. Also some general variance year to year.

If projections are so frequently correct, this should be an easy bet to take.

Yeah exactly. I don’t think you can argue that the Jays are worse team right now with no corresponding move. Teo > Swanson if you aren’t considering $$$ and years of control. But the trade makes sense for both teams because we needed to clear some payroll and Seattle has an abundance of bullpen options. You don’t need to jump through hoops to say the jays “won” the trade.

Has he though? If you take a closer look at his 2022 numbers/splits and look at his injuries this year, they line up with his stretches of being unable to hit the ball. His 2022 was closer to 2020 than you think…. Now that being said I would not be surprised if he has some type of injury again in 2022. Question is do the Mariners rush him back like the jays did.
