They (front office) put a lot of weight into the 3rd time through the order thing and they think by switching pitchers and having different stuff it keeps the hitters off balance and prevents them from getting comfortable.
The strategy has merit, but the thing they aren’t seeming to understand is that the more pitchers you use, the more likely 1 will have a bad day. And overusing guys will cause them to fatigue. And also if you use the same relievers 2-3 times in a series, the opposing teams get more of a look at them.
