  1. Ooof I thought that hit by Eloy was going over the fence
  2. Idk how you fault him for the throw hitting the base runner, can’t really control where he’s running. But yes that flyball adventure was definitely something. Although to be fair Varsho missed a couple like that too
  3. April 24 Vladdy - 1 Point - Bichette - 1 Point - Omar Chapman - 1 Point - Varsho - 2 Points - jaysblue Belt - 3 Points - JaysAllMighty Kirk - 3 Points - Stangstag Kiermaier - 3 Points - Biggio - 4 Points - Merrifield - 5 Points - WryNGinger, wilko Off the bench: 10 Points - Spanky
  4. Yeah I don’t think this run will be any different with Angelos still in charge. Depends if/when he croaks. But if the Os are content to sit on a sub-100m payroll I don’t think they can sustain a solid team. Teams like the Rays are willing to trade their superstars for prospects before they become expensive while most teams won’t.
  5. Ah. Wonder if its an actual injury or a phantom one. Either way probably improves the bullpen significantly. Cimber was borderline useless his last few outings
  6. Missed op R Yu fat shaming
  7. I feel like its more likely we see Ryu as a lefty relief option and spot starter. Maybe he gets a couple ticks on the fastball out of the pen and becomes effective, who knows.
  8. Good point, hard to remember the newer rules sometimes
  9. If Espy goes to the DL, we still need a backup SS. I wonder if they decide to bring Otto Lopez up for a week or two. I know he’s not doing well in AAA so far, but maybe this gives him an opportunity to hang with the MLB guys and clear his head a bit? Can’t really hurt his development…
  10. I don’t think the WAR is accurate right now, defensive metrics definitely out of whack. There’s no universe where Teo is a positive defender and Varsho is a negative defender.
  11. I checked out LF and RF in the 100s and they were cool. Schneiders porch in the 200s RF was also nice and spacious. Didn’t go up to the 500s to check those yet.
  12. But anyways the problem here is that its very easy to mix rosin + other stuff and get a very sticky substance. Rosin is considered legal. The best solution is to create a new ball like Japan has and don’t allow ANY substances. But then you still have the problem of sunscreen…
  13. Yeah its funny he was basically saying not a lot of guys did the rosin + other stuff because sometimes their hands got so sticky that the ball would peel off some skin when they threw it and he didn’t like that. He went on to say that if they realized how much spin rate = more effective pitches then he would have been doing it and everyone else probably would too.
  14. I was listening to this broadcast the video is from and David Cone said usually you don't wanna wash hands with water because it can make your hands soft/pruney and have a negative effect. Washing with alcohol seems pretty standard from what he was saying. But he also said alcohol "activates" the rosin more than sweat or sunscreen
  15. The problem is that Rosin is a legal substance, but the umpires can deem it illegal if your hands are “too sticky” which probably means different things for different umpires. They need an actual hardline point of acceptable vs too much. Also maybe don’t allow the use of alcohol? That should be easy enough to smell if a player has used it.
  16. Disclaimer: I did these stat checks on my phone but im planning to do a deeper dive on my desktop once I get home. What the Rays are doing is ridiculous
  17. This is the highest wRC+ a team has had through the month of april… Ever. I went and looked at the past 50+ years on fangraphs and the best team wRC+ through April was around 130ish, while the Rays have like 150ish right now. This is historic. And the Rays don’t really have an amazing lineup outside a few guys like Wander and Arozerena… im pretty convinced they’re cheating in some way. And yeah banking this many early wins pretty much guarantees they’ll win the division unless they have an epic collapse, which is unlikely to happen with their pitching being so solid.
  18. Rays win again
  19. Yeah he’s having much better at bats the past week or so and hitting the ball harder. Just no luck
  20. Yup this is more like what we were expecting. Now just need a couple guys in the bullpen to step up and prove that they can be relied on. Right now it’s looking like Romano, Swanson, and maybe Pop. Mayza in certain situations. Pearson should probably be up here too.
  21. Grant and Jonn +1 +1 Stangstag +2
