    Did it really, though? They traded Marisnick for nothing, traded Escobar for nothing, Nicolino is nothing, and Hechavarria has given them approximately 0.1 WAR over 3 seasons. They haven't used that money for shrewd free agent signings, and they haven't sniffed the playoffs since the trade.

    The major problem with Shields, as I see it, is that he'll opt out after 2016 if he has a good season. And if he has a bad season, you're stuck with him.

    It would be pretty funny if San Diego got one year of Shields for $10M and then got decent prospects for the remainder of his backloaded deal. Maybe Preller isn't quite as stupid as we think.

    I feel like Aaron Sanchez sucks, but then again he does have a career 2.67 ERA through 101 IP. I'd do that trade though.

    You have a fairly tough sched ROS too, with Slayers, Min, and jaysblue. You can beat down Boxy, but you'll still need to make up ground against the playoff teams. The match against Burrito Boyz should have major playoff implications. A 12-1 drubbing would help a lot.

    Love those two pitchers, personally, and I don't think their contracts are exorbitant. If I could get Shark + Houdini or Kimbrel + Ross, I'd be willing to give up one of Norris or Hoffman + lesser pieces. Preferably, you make the other team take Navarro back to cut a couple million, but it wouldn't be a dealbreaker. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd even take Shields' contract. You cut the salaries of Buehrle + Dickey + Romero + Navarro next year and there's plenty of room for Shields + Kimbrel. Granted, if you're taking Shields' contract, you're not giving up much in the way of prospects.

    I would be willing to give up big name prospects for Shark if we can get Robertson as well. Same with Kimbrel + Ross/Cashner.

    Here are the primary reasons that I see for TCA's failure this year: - substantial time missed by Puig, Strasburg and Rendon - too many awful PAs given to Andrus and Leonys Martin - terrible bullpen Also, having 5 bench players on your offense is far too many, that needs to be 2-3 max. Not enough SP or BP depth as a result.
