  1. Fowler is very comparable, although he was a year younger. Fowler got $16.5M AAV over 5 years. I'd be comfortable with $17M AAV over 4 years for Cain ($68M), but as you say, someone will probably give him a 5th year.
  2. I think we'd all be very OK with that, that would be a steal. Cain should comfortably project to put up 8-9 WAR over a 4 year contract, which would put a $60M contract at 50% surplus value. I suspect it will take closer to $20M AAV.
  3. Florial is toolsy but the K rate is concerning. His ceiling is probably like Carlos Gomez.
  4. I don't think Sheffield is that interesting. I'd rather have Reyes than either of those two.
  5. Cardinals 'keep pushing for' Josh Donaldson http://www.rotoworld.com/images/headshots/MLB/5409.jpg According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Cardinals "keeping pushing for" Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson. Rosenthal adds, however, that the Blue Jays "remain disinclined to move Donaldson" because they want to compete in 2018. The asking price is high and there is no indication that a deal is close. St. Louis has its toe in the water on a bunch of different potential upgrades and it sounds like there might be a better match with the Rays. Evan Longoria, Alex Colome, and Chris Archer are the names the Cardinals have discussed with Tampa Ba
  6. Probably the kind of return we'd be looking at for JD
  7. Apparently Loria had put the franchise $400M in debt, so it was probably hard for MLB to even find a willing buyer.
  8. Yep, multiple years of control. Makes no sense to rush and accept this offer. The Marlins are going to be horrid for several years. Good luck paying down that $400M in debt when you have no ticket revenue.
  9. I still laugh when I read "Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports."
  10. For whatever little this is worth: Marlins intend to hold on to Christian Yelich http://www.rotoworld.com/images/headshots/MLB/6450.jpg Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports hears the Marlins "intend to hold onto Christian Yelich." There is a massive organizational fire sale underway in Miami, with Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna already out the door, but Yelich is under the Marlins' control through 2021 with a club option for 2022 and they apparently want to try to build around the 26-year-old outfielder. Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area confirms this thought, tweeting Wednesday that the Giants "have repeatedly been told" by the Marlins that Yelich is not available.
  11. It's kind of bizarre, what was the rush to trade Ozuna? Alcantara is alright, but he's a pitcher and not even a consensus Top 100 guy. They should have at least been able to get Reyes here. I would have thought that many teams would be in on Ozuna, given his youth and relatively modest projected arb salary. They should have been able to get at the very least at Top 50 position prospect and some near-MLB ready ~50 FV types.
  12. There's a good chance that the hype on Bo will never be higher. If Bo is what it takes to get Yelich (without taking on Chen's dead money), then that's absolutely worth considering. As you rightly pointed out, there is oodles of surplus value on that contract.
  13. I would gladly part with Pearson for Yelich. Probably Bo, too. Pearson is far from untouchable, the odds of him ever becoming a 4 WAR player like Yelich are incredibly low.
  14. Right. Yelich anyone?
  15. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Blue Jays met with CC Sabathia on Tuesday According to George A. King III of the New York Post, the Blue Jays met with free agent starter CC Sabathia on Tuesday. Sabathia seemed poised for a return to the Yankees when the offseason began and Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports noted Tuesday that the two parties remain in touch, but the Angels were reported to have interest on Sunday night and now the Jays are also in the mix. The veteran left-hander posted an impressive 3.69 ERA (122 ERA+) in 148 2/3 innings with New York in 2017.
  16. Wo im dumn I didn't even realize Pineda was a free agent. That seems like a steal, his medicals must be fuct.
  17. Pretty much everyone thought that was insane at the time and it's only looked worse as time went on.
  18. Because... Stanton makes a s***-ton and Ozuna doesn't? Seems pretty obvious.
  19. I think Jays fans would be pretty disappointed by the trade return, whether it's now or in July. Teams just aren't going to give up multiple Top 100 prospects for a rental player in this era. IMO the best course of action is a reasonable market value extension, something like 6 years, $160M. On that deal he'd need to average about 2.7 WAR per year to provide surplus value (not factoring in inflation), so it provides a reasonable middle ground considering how good he is now vs. the considerable risk of playing out this season and having a down/injured year heading into FA at age 33. I think he'd be open to something like that. And really, I think we can all give up on Vladdy as a 3B. That's just window dressing.
  20. I don't see this front office cutting themselves off at the knees with their most valuable player to assuage a fanbase, they are too shrewd for that. They are weighing all options, I don't see this reactionary need to rush to judgement. Pretty much everything they've done with this organization has been prudent, and I'm sure whatever course of action they choose with Donaldson will be the best option in light of all the information they have at their disposal (i.e. his willingness to sign an extension, what kind of trade offers they are getting for him, etc.)... information that we do not and will not have.
  21. You guys need to accept that we are going to sign either Jay Bruce or Cargo, hopefully at a reasonable cost. Just cross your fingers and hope they put up a couple WAR.
  22. At this point the Marlins don't give a s*** about dollar value, they are just dumping money, period. They are $400M in debt and will probably try to dump anyone who's past Arb 1, with the exception of probably Yelich.
  23. I could see an Alford-centrepiece trade if we took Prado's contract in the deal. I'm sure this FO has no intention of trading Vlad or Bo under any circumstances.
  24. I think Torres is going to be a Bogaerts clone with the bat (even though their MiLB lines were quite different).
  25. You would think they'll at least want to keep Gleyber down to suppress his service time. They would take a .700 OPS and adequate defence from him in 2018, but they aren't going to give up a year of control, surely.
