  1. So does that mean Thole is guaranteed the back up spot? Could Ruiz or Hannigan or Jose Molina catch Dickey? It seems like the Jays are handcuffed with Dickey because he needs a personal catcher.
  2. Bob MCccowan made a comment on PTS that someone at the Rogers ( Beeston ?) told him the budget would be $150M in 2014.
  3. Very good point. In today's MLB, Lind at $7 million or $5 million net is good value.
  4. I haven't seen this much anger towards a Blue Jay since Aaron Hill . JPA had a very bad season but I don't understand all the hate towards him. I am sure he can improve next year. That doesn't mean he gets the starting job in 2014, but wouldn't he be a reliable back up?
  5. A team with Bautista & EE for a full season should be able to have a potent offense. The Jays wasted too many years in developing mode & haven't been able to develop players internally. AA made the correct move. Use the high value prospects which probably won't succeed under Jays development & trade them for MLB talent.
  6. Wow!. I forgot that Niekro was pitching after age 45. Is it realistic to think Dickey will pitch in 2016?
  7. I would not trade Bautista for Niese + prospects. That is absurd.
  8. Rogers will have to consider spending more money on free agents or getting higher paid players through trades to offset the weakness in developing players.
  9. AA likes his injury prone bargains like Brandon Morrow, Josh Johnson
  10. It would be nice to develop some homegrown talent from the post 2009 drafts. AA has been spending a lot of money on scouts & acquiring draft picks. Some of the picks have been used in the trades last year, so that's a start. AA gave away Yan Gomes to Cleveland as a throw in for Esmail Rodgers. Gomes has outperformed in JPA in 2013 as a backup catcher. Very sad for the Jays.
  11. Very shocking news, especially since the Red Sox & Yankees usually draft after the Jays. http://www.battersbox.ca/article.php?story=20131019052830681
  12. Is Fernando Tatis playing 3B tonight for the Leones the same guy that used to play for the Expos & other major league teams?
  13. Very impressive performance!
  14. That's pessimistic. A full year of Goins can't outproduce Boni/Izturis? Redmond pitching at current levels can't do better than Josh Johnson? I assume Melky will be better. Bautista,Reyes,Colby at full health should be fine. The Jays can't have 3 years in a row of above average injuries can they??
  15. Well I am encouraged by the play of the Buffalo call ups. Goins,Gose, Redmond have a shot at being on the opening day roster in 2014. The Jays have been facing teams that in playoff contention for most of the past month. The bullpen looks like it will lead the Al in 2014. Santos looks like a awesome set up man. Hutch,Drabek can help. I am very optimistic for 2014.
  16. The Jays win today gives them 74 on the year , so they have officially improved compared to last year. Tomorrow will be an epic battle against the Rays.
  17. Langerhans get the bunt down. Could the Jays knock the Rays out of the playoffs with two more wins? I am going to the game tomorrow.
  18. Perhaps he will hint about bidding for Tanaka?
  19. Is Happ the 5th starter next year? Jays have a surplus of 5th starters.
  20. Wilner will be using this factoid throughout the offseason. If the Jays win 1 of the next 2 games, they will have 74 wins which will technically be an improvement. I find it annoying as a loyal fan who buys flexpack tickets each year, + merchandise + food + watches the game on Rogers TV etc to not expect a bit of courtesy from AA or whoever to say apologize & try to do better in 2014. I am well aware that there are no legal guarantees that the team should win when I buy a ticket but from a customer service perspective, but it would be a nice gesture from the jays.
  21. Wilner will be very happy tonight. The Jays are guaranteed to finish no worse than last year with 73 wins. Wilner's latest rant is that fans are not owed an apology for this year's performance. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/wilner-blue-jays-dont-owe-fans-an-apology/ Wilner is wrong. It would be classy for AA to talk to the fans on Sunday after the game. The fans came out in large numbers to support the team this year.
  22. I love your Expos background poster. Where did you get it.? I am a diehard Expos fan.
  23. Agreed. Hopefully Rogers will give him some extra $$ to fix the holes for 2014. The pitching depth is better for 2014. I am very curious to see what he will do about getting a starting catcher & 1 more starter.
  24. A good summary of the Jays 2013 season & prospects 2014. http://mlb.si.com/2013/09/18/wait-til-next-year-toronto-blue-jays-2/
  25. I worry about the AL East. The Yankees with a depleted lineup are in a wildcard race. They should be healthier next year. Orioles are a good team. Tampa might be a bit weaker. It's going to be tough to get to the playoffs. Hopefully AA can fill the holes.
