    The problem is we'd be trading either kid who is much younger and cheaper and could probably over the course of given a 150-175IP season in the majors put up a season not too far off what Samardzija would. Short term gain for long term pain.

    There's other options, but who really cares at this time. Its all about panic and making the playoffs once, and then the big teardown because everyone's in their mid 30's and f***ing sucks.

    If his minor league numbers are anything close to what he does in the majors......he isn't a 1B.

    We need a stable defensive catcher....Hanigan is. His contract is pretty much nothing. And sorry I don't discount an abysmal career for a blip of a decent hitting season, as much I wouldn't discount Hanigan falling off the map because of one.

    I look at it as an opportunity in locking up a solid defensive backstop, and having him catch more than he ever has over the course of the next couple years at very reasonable money. IMO he makes the staff better, provides financial flexibility to address other areas and I see his bat playing more towards his career numbers than his 2013 numbers. And if we could get him for a RP, it opens up a slot to slide Stilson into the pen.

    The dumb thing is, he's willing to save his job for one season at the cost of losing it in two years by taking on absolutely ridiculous contracts. What the f*** is with people?

    MLB owned the Expos at that time, didn't they? So why pump extra money to the players when the league was just looking to keep the franchise on life support until the relocation?

    So would I. I believe the Cards might be more down on Shelby not being available in the playoffs and the Jays possibly able to scratch an extra piece out in a deal opposed to targeting Wacha riding his high and paying the artificial premium.

    Hanigan would be the back up with JP gone. He's better than Thole. SO get rid of JPR & Thole and bring in Ruiz & Hanigan. And the Reds painted themselves into a corner by making Hanigan the odd man out right now. Mesoraco being the starter and Brayan Pena being the new back up.
