When I'm talking to people who think baseball is boring or are non-fans the reason is their expectations of the game are too great and they get let down. They go to games and feel they absolutely have to pay attention to the field the entire time and they expect action non-stop.
My answer to that is, baseball is more of an event where you chat with your friends, take in the stadium, people watch. Relax and enjoy the environment, don't go in expecting to be fixated on the field for the entire 3 hours, because yes you will be bored out of your mind. You can miss a pitch or ten and appreciate the game more by the relaxed experience.
And in regards to your comments on not being able to follow all the games.....it takes time to appreciate the story lines of a season and further to that the history. It takes time to hook people in, and what would draw new people in are the promotion of star players through internet advertising, TV, radio to a lesser extent and connecting more at the ball park and home with fans via technology.
Enforce existing rules to tighten the game up, don't change the game because the game should mimic what happens in International Softball.
If MLB wants to sell out to draw in fringe fans, it's a dangerous endeavour. You're trying to attract more people who have zero or little interest in something expecting them to stick at risking losing people who are already heavily invested.
I know the guy on 2nd is a small change that will affect very little. It's just the bizarreness of the change and not the number of times it will occur that I have a problem with.
