The reason why I don't take the side of a buy stance, is because I don't believe in overpaying for a push. I'm mostly a fan of selling and pushing windows of contention open to bigger spans. I'm a fan of moving vets making chunks of money for prospects with good/great potential and using the money saved on moving the vet to acquire a FA vet. I'm not a fan of riding guys contracts out like Rasmus, Janssen, etc....where they're lost to free agency or extended to retirement. And since Rogers appears to not want to have a payroll that compares with teams who have payrolls in the 160-200+ the Jays have to be more creative than pursuing big name, big money players. If you're not gonna have a payroll like the big teams, then don't pretend to try and spend with them. Develop and farm and use it to your advantage.
I as a baseball fan don't build relationships with players where I can't fathom the thought of the Jays not trading them. Everyone should be on the table to be moved at any time, ensuring the deal is a win for the future and possibly the now as well.
