If the team on the field is successful enough (sellouts) no one will be complaining aside from the people buying tickets on the secondary market.
Jays fans were crying this year about secondary market prices for playoff tickets. Hilarious.
I'm sure Shapiro has his own contacts to build his own stable of scouts and development team. And those contacts have contacts.
It's not the end of the world.
What I meant by that is, people tend to get so attached to players they don't care if the right move is made to better the team. They still want their little snuggle blanket player they love, but sucks.
I think Pillar's bat has a little more refinement left in it and his defence won't be as flashy or good.
I think Pillar is worth more to us than he would be in trade.
Win a WS with them this year is such a definitive statement.
At minimum we should be QO'ing them both and letting them walk when they both decline. There's zero reason to run Jose or Edwin up close to 40 and paying them 20+m a year.
Fair enough.
And the masses would be in an uproar if we traded Bautista or Edwin for Trout and the Angels at Trout's entire contract.
There's too many emotional ties fans make with players or teams.
I can't see the Cubs or Astros sliding as an MLB team any time soon. And there's still many pieces on the farm to keep them in the top 15. The same also applies to the Rangers who by BA rankings haven't fallen below 15th in the last 5 years of rankings but field a contender/competitive team.
If the majority of fans cried for Shapiro or Alex to hand blank cheques and an unlimited amount of years to keep Edwin & Jose. Do you support the Jays Front Office doing that?
The same could be said of the Country and 20,000+ people every game after the trade deadline of the Blue Jays.
They fell in love with a feeling, team and sport they didn't know existed days before.
If Shapiro tells them the team is gonna be re-tooled or re-built you think they'll wanna stick around?
And no I don't want either of these guys extended. They're expensive bat only players at this point.
Let them come out and spend and cheer. But their opinions need to be left at the door for what are good moves or players. They just need to worry about the "W's"
Did you see Tulo and how hard a transition it was coming to a new league, team & Country?
And if there is any sense of a re-build or re-tool coming, why would Edwin or Jose wanna stick around?
