There are degrees of potential. Sanchez ceiling is frontline starter, even an ace. In the Jays org, there are only a couple that share that potential... Stro, Hoffman, Castro.

For Sanchez boosters, it's less about the stats and more about the undeniable talent. He has improved since some adjustments in Buffalo early last season and through the BP stint. Still very much a work in progress. So far he has been OK as a 5th starter. Until his being in the starting rotation starts to hurt the BJ chances, he's exactly where he should be. He may continue to improve, or he may blow up. We will see.

Based on your posts I figured you would agree with my position that Sanchez has been OK as a 22 yr old 5th starter.

So what do you propose? Send him down to Buffalo, move him to the bullpen, trade him? IMO, he's exactly where he should be. Getting experience and confidence with every start as the 5th starter. Also, there will be a poll.

He's been ok as a 22 yr old 5th starter. If he was 28 yrs old, I'd say replace him. If he was putting up these results as the 2nd or 3rd starter, I'd say the Jays need to upgrade. Think before you post your insulting drivel.

and the average for 21-23 yr old starters so far this year is ~4.5 lack of control goes with the territory for most young pitchers

FFS man. If Sanchez goes to 3 BB/9, he's the Jays No 1 starter. Let's just be satisfied if he provides reasonable results as a 22 yr old 5th starter. Give your head a shake.

The only idiot here is you. Sanchez is going to have bad games like every other 22 yr old, but over the course of the season he will be just fine as a 5th starter.

It's SSS and he's been squeezed by the umps. Let's see what happens. Also, Randy Johnson had a season with 6.79 BB/9 and amassed 2.8 WAR.

He needs to improve, but he's 22. The frontline starter potential is clearly there. In the history of baseball, there have been gazillion pitchers with control problems at age 22 that had long productive careers as a starting pitcher. There's a very good chance the peripherals you see today will be much improved a year from now.

looking at Sanchez peers - starters aged 21 -23 with more than 20 IP Archie Bradley - 4.95 BB/9 Daniel Norris - 4.63 BB/9 Carlos Martinez - 4.25 BB/9 Taijuan Walker - 4.76 BB/9 Aaron Sanchez - 7.11 BB/9 Yes the BB/9 is on the high side but not abnormally so compared to his peers. He's been squeezed by the ump the last two games. He's had 3 games with 3 BB or less. Some of you need to cut him some slack.

you shouldnt have a fixed position when it comes to a 22 yr old with a live arm its just as possible that sanchez gains control and confidence with each start and the k/9 creeps down below 4. he's has 3 starts with < 3 BB.
