    When my handicap was 12 (I didn't start playing till 35 yrs old), the way I got it down into the single digits was by increasing percentage of up and downs. Two hours a day for a month at the chipping green meant shaving 4-5 shots off a round by chip/one putt and the odd chip in. Spend 2 hours a week on chipping/putting green now to maintain. Helped that the private course was 5 mins at the office and at 5 pm there was no one on the practice green.
