Smoak was 0.6 WAR for 328 PA in 2015. He has slumped lately but let's see where he is at when 2016n is over. He also rode the bench for lengthy periods of time when Colabello played. And as far as we know, he never complained. It's not that bad of a contract. And we know the potential to bust out like a Trumbo is there.

We don't know the full details of the Bruce deal. Who where the prospects involved for example. Look at Cleveland this year, that's Shatkins' team I'm sure they see the window for this team as rapidly closing and a need to acquire high end prospects by draft/trade/whatever

Joey has known for months that he is headed for free agency I don't mind Smoak as a bottom 25 player, and agree the extension at this time makes little sense. But there are a lot of things we don't know and I'm gonna give Shatkins the benefit of the doubt here.

Could be a confidence thing.... i'm thinking it could be an issue of how his arm is responding to his different pitches. We, and Stro, know he has a devastating arsenal, can't think of another reason why he wouldn't be using it to his advantage.

I've never understood Gibby's propensity to take out relievers that "got it going" on a particular day and have plenty of gas in the tank, and take the risk the next reliever doesn't "got it going". Personally, I think Gibby simply has low intellect.

When you allow 10 baserunners in 4.2 innings, you get more opportunities to K. The xFIP calculation does not take opportunity into account. xFIP is nowhere near perfect, man.
