  1. pretty sure they said sanchize friday
  2. We need to find out from Olerud how Barnes MiLB stats translate to MLB
  3. Paranoid: Low Schizoid: High Schizotypal: Low Antisocial: Moderate Borderline: Low Histrionic: Low Narcissistic: Low Avoidant: Low Dependent: Low Obsessive-Compulsive: Low I'm John Rambo Edit - now I know why it was no problem backpacking alone from Toronto to Tobermory in 1996, and cycling alone from Toronto to Montreal in 1997.
  4. But, would we really be happy with a 1 WAR improvement over Thole on D, with a Thole bat? From a guy with the potential to be an above average regular? Generally, MiLB is better for developing skills. McGuire needs at least 1 more year of seasoning.
  5. Best to walk away. You only lose if you use mental disability as a form of ridicule. Edit: and no, I don't believe Grant has a mental disability. And even if he did, I would still treat him with respect and certainly not use it against him.
  6. Let's just agree to be happy Thole is gonna be gone.
  7. He's getting long in the tooth. I can see him declining rapidly after he signs his last guaranteed contract. Not just from declining skills, also declining interest.
  8. This was posted earlier. Thought it indicated below average blocking, actually refers to it as average. No doubt, better than Thole, although it would be better for him to continue to develop hitting skills in MiLB for another year or so instead of flailing away at MLB level. ********************** I was pleasantly surprised with the Reese McGuire that showed up in the Arizona Fall League; he finally showed some potential to use his plus bat speed to drive the ball with some authority instead of just making contact. It wasn’t just the numbers where he showed improvement either; his swing looked like it was meant to be doing some damage. He still has work to do on both his offense and defense, but the changes this fall were encouraging enough to project him closer to his offensive ceiling than I would have admitted at this time last year. Prior to the fall, McGuire had the same bat speed and loose, athletic swing, but his swing plane was geared for low line drives and ground balls. To that end, he had delivered through the regular season last year, with few swings and misses but not much to show for it. His path in the fall looked good enough to tap into his above-average raw power given enough time to develop, making him a much more interesting prospect than the good-glove, questionable-hitting catcher he looked like before. He has plus arm strength out of the crouch, but below-average footwork and transfers pull his current arm grade down to average. He gets great reviews for calling a game behind the plate, and present above-average receiving and average blocking ability give him plenty of skills to be a valuable backstop. Team sources swear by his receiving work as a whole, so I’m trusting their judgment by bumping his future grades up. With the emphasis the Pirates have placed on his defense, it’s reasonable to see future gains made in all his defensive tools, giving him upside as a true plus defender. His improved hitting forecast makes the total package look like an above-average regular at minimum. Hit: 35/50/55 Power: 35/45/50+ Run: 45/40/45 Field: 55/60/60+ Throw: 50/55/60 Overall: 35/55-60/65
  9. Oh I agree. Just pointing out that McGuire D is probably not as you indicated at this stage of his development.
  10. Expect Estrada to get some rest, before taking Sanchez spot. A reliever has won a Cy Young in the past. It's not out of the question that Sanchez will be a dominant reliever and pile enough stats to be a strong contender. Not that I care all that much.
  11. The fangraphs writeup indicates his defense is still a work in progress. Footwork, blocking, and transfer all need work. Receiving and game calling average or above.
  12. Yes. McGuire could end up being nothing. I laugh at the posts saying Jays are set at the catching position after Martin.
  13. It's the 1st inning, shut up with the doom and gloom
  14. Maybe, but he is going to be a fantastic option out of the bullpen through the stretch run. Any lead after 7 innings should be pretty safe with Sanchez and Osuna. Will be interesting to see Sanchez K spike from the bullpen with his increased arsenal.
  15. Sanchez is young. If he is truly legit, and not just having a anomaly of a season, he will get plenty more chances. As long as he is healthy!
  16. Liriano outpitches Hutchison this year and next? Quite possible. What a steal of a trade.
  17. Nice move for today and future. Hutchison not a high price, he hasn't been close to being the same pitcher since TJS. Does Sanchez go to 'pen or does Estrada go to DL?
  18. No I'm not. I'm just repudiating Olerud's position that scouting has little value, that stats can tell the story. Scouts are quite valuable in picking up the information stats don't provide.
  19. Jays should get rid of all the scouts then. If what you are saying is true, Sanchez should be flipping burgers.
  20. Sarcasm bro.... maybe a 3% chance Alford becomes a Hawk.
  21. No they won't. You can put together good minor league stats despite having flaws that will be exposed at MLB level, the kind of flaws that scouts will pick up on.
  22. Williams, Thomas, Jackson? Maybe, I'm thinking Alford will be no worse than Andre Dawson. Exact same tools.
  23. How's Frazier D? What's his K rate? His BABIP? How fast has he moved through MiLB? His bat speed? Length of swing? Can he hit off speed? You can't stat scout minor leaguers.
  24. In hindsight, Jays should have brought up Danny Barnes prior to the deadline. Good numbers over a short stretch could have returned a top 10 pitching prospect in this market. Jays scouts should be scouring the minor leagues for young starting pitchers with blazing fastballs but limited secondaries. Guys who can be molded into effective RPs. Corner this market. Heck, even Rule 5 pickup Biagini could return something useful in this market.
  25. Storen was on his way out, opening a spot on the 25 man. A 7 man relief corps is possible. With acquisition of Upton and Benoit, there is no room for GoGo or the 'shroom
