  1. It would be a gamble, no doubt. Probably a dumb gamble. However, it would be Morrow @10M + what they could do with 9M although I admit it's not certain they wouldn't have to chip in some $ to trade Buehrle. On the other hand, they might get something in return for him. It's not that I want to get rid of Buehrle, but the budget is clearly frozen so I feel like they'll have to take risks.
  2. I've been thinking the team should gamble one more year on Morrow since it has more SP depth than before and try to trade Buehrle instead. That would create some payroll room, but who knows what they'd do with the $avings.
  3. Yeah, I'm (wishfully?) thinking Happ could get traded for a cheaper player and Estrada would replace him. The team needs to save $ wherever it can. Whether they'll actually improve the team is the big question mark.
  4. So now we know who Estrada replaces in the BP.
  5. All good man, disregard, just a joke. Your updates are well appreciated.
  6. I like Nolin, but getting Kendrick without much of a payroll increase sounds good.
  7. I'm starting to be swayed to at least look at the other side of this deal. If AA can trade Happ for something decent...we'll have to wait and see.
  8. So who would you prefer as a 5th SP, Estrada or Happ?
  9. Maybe they'll trade Happ now for similar savings?
  10. AA has a job because the owners of the franchise think he's done a good enough job.
  11. What's the dodgers' salary payroll situation?
  12. Gotta fix that bullpen! So aren't Estrada, Redmond and Hendriks the same guy?
  13. Alright, it's Marco Estrada for Lind...start the freakout!
  14. Looks like Lind ran his mouth a bit too much...you don't mess with this FO.
  15. Chances of Rasmus coming back just increased...or his the market for him was reduced to 28 teams.
  16. Kendrick and Freese will be traded for SP according to this article: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/angels-anaheim-trade-david-freese-howie-kendrick-starting-pitcher-bullpen-103114
  17. Just saw this...wow!!! Just goes to show us all how we should cherish our every moment with our loved ones. My condolences to the Taveras family as well as to the family of the young lady that died alongside him. Makes me reflect on my 10 year old and think of how fast he's growing although my working so much and being away from him probably makes it seem faster than it really is. I can only try to imagine how the parents of these 2 must feel right now. RIP.
  18. I'd like to see how many fanbases would continue to support their teams after what happened in Montreal after the 1994 strike. Everyone knows about the firesale after the strike, however, they forget that the team recovered quickly and had pretty good teams in 1996 and 1997 only to see them let the players go again. We know things deteriorated in the late '90's and early 00's, but let's keep things in perspective. This is not to say that I think the city would support a team, but a case can be made that it would be no worse than at least 10 other markets. If I'm not mistaken (for the umpteenth time), Cleveland contended again this year after making the play-in game in 2013 and attendance actually dropped.
  19. Yeah for sure. I do wonder about the tv deal. There's another French all-sports network in the province now so that might mean the landscape has changed, but who really knows. It's all far-fetched anyway.
  20. I hope you're right and more fans would go see the Rays if the Trop was more easily accessible, but it doesn't change the fact that the Big O' is in a pretty bad location. Would you go more often to a bad part of town just because it's right in between 2 subway stations? From a personal standpoint, it would certainly be much more appealing to hang out in downtown before and/or after the game. On the other hand, who knows to how many other people this would apply. I would think they'd need some 20K season tickets or so to make it viable. I can't remember how many Brochu had pre-sold in his push to build it, but I remember thinking it was rather impressive.
  21. It's nice that you think this, but apparently, MLB officials and even Sternberg were rather impressed by the crowds. Who knows. At the end of the day, MLB and Rays ownership may just be trying to put pressure on Tampa to build them a stadium. Maybe, you're right, but maybe not. As someone who lives in Montreal, it was a problem for me. I never went to that side of the city except to watch games. It's one of the worst areas of the city, although it may have changed since then as I haven't gone back there in a loong time. I doubt the Big O' is a better stadium than any other, but I've never been to the Trop. It probably isn't a "great baseball market", but how many of those are there, honestly? I do agree that the commitment by the the city isn't there, but apparently, neither is it there in Tampa. I also remember that the Expos had pre-sold a decent amount of season tickets to the first downtown stadium proposal by Claude Brochu even though it was just a dream. At the end of the day, who knows...
