  1. Happ won't get you Fowler. Maybe Nolin +, like Ang suggested. I think AA said recently that the hang-up in some trade talk is the "+" that teams are asking for since it's likely a lower level 'spect and the Jays have several of those.
  2. I think he meant that Friedman would be able to use the 5 ERA against the D-Backs, especially the D-Backs..
  3. Shoot, I thought they had a few guys they could take off the roster to protect Cole. Oh well, maybe it'll work out in the end.
  4. I hope you're right, for a change. I think he could be a good bench piece if he can't make it as an everyday player.
  5. Surprise, surprise, he has the Jays on his no-trade list.
  6. Surprised Andy Burns was not added to the roster. I think he's gone.
  7. So you you feel about the owners not firing your whipping boy and instead letting him spend 82M on Martin? Must be really disappointing. I'd buy the team if I were you.
  8. They're deferring 9M from Martin's 16.4 per year salary and spreading it out over 2017, 2018 and 2018. Hopefully itt ends up working out
  9. Ratings are healthy and attendance is decent, I doubt AA is/was on the hot seat. In reality, he's more likely to have been on the hot seat if he had allowed the team to go into 2013 and 2014 expecting to lose 90 to 100 games. Ratings and attendance would've been quite a bit lower than they've been with the team trying to compete. We'll see what happens.
  10. Maybe deal Looouuuupppp?
  11. Bat is pretty important but he could be decent depth. Interestingly, Jays should have Burns, Berti, Schimpf and Travis at AAA next year, all of whom can play 2B which I think is decent. Of course, only Schimpf has played above AA, but i think both Travis and Burns could've been promoted some time in the 2nd half.
  12. Just another example that it all starts at the very top. When a franchise fails with multiple GM's running the team, you've gotta look at ownership.
  13. I think Travis could've been promoted to AAA last year and gotten some AB's. Hopefully, he gets off to a good start and is given a shot around May or so, sort of like Stroman this past season.
  14. Not hard to conclude that a good number of FA would try to avoid signing with the Jays given they seem to be on so many players' no-trade list. We'll see what happens.
  15. Well, that's another way of saying what I said, so we're not really disagreeing here. It's certainly true that the team's long term outlook has improved and the farm is arguably a top 10 system again. Farm could look even better if guys like Hoffman and Osuna show they're fully healthy after TJS; if Castro continues to rise (AA was recently quoted as saying he thinks they should've promoted much sooner than they did); if Nay takes a step forward; if Barreto continues to shine (I happen to think they should've promoted him to Lansing); if Jansen shows 2013 was no fluke, among other lower level suspects. I've said it would make sense to go to 150M in payroll for 2015 instead of trading away the farm although we know some of the prospects will prove to have actually been suspects in a couple of years...we'll see what happens.
  16. Don't think that was the case at all. If anything, after the Marlins trade, the FO thought adding an Ace would put them over the top. Especially since acquiring Dickey didn't increase payroll at all. I do think they didn't want to punt 2013 and 2014 so they made the Marlins trade rather than going for the top 5 draft picks. At the end of the day, they made inefficient trades, but they also avoided going into 2013 and 2014 as a bottom 5 team in all of MLB which is something this franchise doesn't "do".
  17. True. If they were looking toward 2016, they would've been better off trading Bautista at the end of the 2012 season instead of making the Marlins and Dickey trades.
  18. I believe the trades were made to avoid being a bottom 5 team in all of baseball in 2013 and possibly even 2014 which would've meant lower attendance and tv ratings. Putting butts on the seats and having eyes watching the games is part of running a successful organization although it can sometimes make you overpay in trades or FA or both, but it's part of what a management team is expected to do, at least the management of a team owned by the same people who own the TV broadcasting rights.
  19. I don't think the team has the $ to sign both Martin and Cabrera. I'd rather they sign Martin plus a cheaper option like Aoki or buy low on a guy like Saunders although it's not clear how much they'd have to give up to get him or a similar player. Team could also use another plus CF option since right now it only has Pompey. We'll see...
  20. I'm fine with Travis. I hope it's the type of move that AA will continue to make instead of going for the blockbuster type. Sign Martin and another OF, possibly Saunders and a couple of cheap RP and let's go. Keep the farm and let guys like Castro, Osuna, Nay, Pentecost, Hoffman, Barreto, Jansen, among a few others, continue to develop thus providing this franchise with something positive to look forward to along with Norris, Pompey, Sanchez, Lawrie. We'll see what happens.
  21. True that. It does seem like every player that could block a trade to the Blue Jays, would.
  22. Travis + Happ/Nolin for Kendrick?
  23. Funny how divisive Travis is in the prospect universe. Depending on whose report you read, he plays above/below average defense, he's an above/below average runner, he's an above/below average hitter. Unless I'm mistaken (it's happened before), some of the best 2nd basemen in the game weren't highly ranked as prospects. I don't think Pedroia, Altuve or Utley were that highly ranked. I don't even think Kinsler, Cano or Dozier were top prospects. As I said though, I've been wrong before...at least a couple of times.
