  1. In fairness, they'd have to overpay by a not insignificant amount to sign any top FA. This is one of the reasons why it's important that they develop their own talent.
  2. The Dickey Trade is another reason I can't trust AA in trading for SP. Let's face it, team is more than Cole Hamels away from a contender. Spend the cash in offseason and keep the prospects.
  3. I didn't say "to even consider emptying this great farm system to go for it". For the record, it's arguably a top 10 farm system, maybe top 12. Even if there isn't much in the system to sell, the comment applies, they would have to offer up more prospects to make up for the lack of quality. Still though, the issue is whether the team should go for it when they've barely been above .500 for 3 weeks.
  4. Seriously though, it's certainly true that the other team has to like your players and maybe Texas liked Jason Hoppe more than Chase DeJong. And maybe the D-Backs are working on other deals they like better. We'll see what happens.
  5. They should...unless another team really wants him and makes a nice offer.
  6. They do have Pompey. I do want to keep the young guys, don't get me wrong, and love what Pillar has done, I just wonder if this is his peak value.
  7. Yeah. Looking forward to Pompey as well, I think he'll establish himself as a really good player.
  8. How about trading Pillar as part of a package to get a good pitcher? Rather trade him than Pompey. Pillar has put up 2 fWAR this season and is controllable for years, should have some value.
  9. Team is now 8-12 since The Streak, sort of what they were before it. They'll need to get to 10-12 games over .500 for me to even consider emptying the farm system to go for it.
  10. Big concern is his BB%, it's gone from 9% in 2012, 8% in 2013, 6% in 2014 and 5% so far this season.
  11. Jose Reyes's BB% is below 5% now and his OBP is now lower than Kevin Pillar's. Move him out of the leadoff spot?
  12. Not crazy about this as AA seems to have overpaid here. For example: Rangers got 879,500 from Angels for Jason Hoppe, a 23 year old, 27th rounder who hasn't pitched above short season ball. The Diamondbacks have a bunch of IFA money that they can't spend so it's not like there's a shortage of supply. We'll see how it all shakes out.
  13. I like Boyd, but wasn't for calling him up. Norris had a good ERA and was demoted for other reasons. It seems that some here will knock Sanchez even when this has little to do with him. This has happened in other threadz and it's obvious some will hate on the guy. It's the way many come accross. There are definitely some homers who don't see the young guys' problems, but there's definitely some guys who just dislike him. Fact is, that he's well regarded by the main prospect followers. I think he was included recently in some top 25 players under 25 list by one of these sites that follow 'spects. Team just used its entire BP, they definitely had to make some moves to get some arms up, doesn't mean they're giving up on Boyd. Anyway, to each his own.
  14. Yeah, this team is Cole Hamels away from WS contenders.
  15. Passan's take on the Dipoto resignation: https://sports.yahoo.com/news/gm-jerry-dipoto-s-departure-reveals-mike-scioscia-to-be-unquestioned-ruler-of-angels-215115777.html
  16. His previous start was dominant and it didn't get him recalled, so I doubt it. Who knows what's going on with Norris. I thought they'd bring him up instead of OhBoyd since Boyd wasn't even on the 40-man roster, but once again, I was wrong.
  17. I hope Pompey is brought back up soon, but maybe they'll send him to Buffalo first?
  18. I guess now that Smoak is back in the lineup, it won't be a problem for the team to reveal if he was injured and what the injury was. Unless, of course, he was just in the doghouse.
  19. I meant that in general since so many posters have erroneously said that Saunders chose to have part of the meniscus removed to get back quickly. Apologies.
  20. For the umpteenth time, he didn't take the route he did to get back quickly. His meniscus was not repairable so they took out the chunk that was damaged since, again, it could not be repaired. Also, artificial menisci might be closer than you think: http://www.wsj.com/articles/new-fixes-for-worn-knees-1430761617
  21. AA said he had a deal for a rental that was having a down year at '14 deadline, return was Pillar + Nolin, didn't pull trigger.
