  1. And the Marlins trade was supposed to be "franchise-crippling". And the farm system had been emptied and AA wouldn't be able to reload it because he didn't have all those comp picks. Let's see them continue to build the team and if a good trade pops up, then go for it as long as they're getting a youngish guy with control. Anyway...
  2. Surprisingly, Danny V. is at 1 fWAR.
  3. Nick Cafardo on what other teams are asking the Jays to give up: Depends on what starter you're talking about.
  4. Why would he aspire to be an MLB GM when he's a real accountant?
  5. Gose has a strong arm and was shaded towards where the ball fell. In fact he took that ball on 1 bounce. I thought Martin would've been out. Anyway, it's all good, it worked out.
  6. Freaking Martin, first-pitch swinging!
  7. Those in the f/o who pushed for getting Smoak must get pissed every time he's benched.
  8. Remember when we wanted AA to get Franklin...good thing he got Travis instead.
  9. He said he'd trade 4 years of Hutchison for half of Cueto. Then he said go get Shark and maybe Kazmir. So this is about what he said he'd give up for Cueto. I mentioned Norris, Hoffman and Pompey as possibly traded to get Shark and Kazmir. As far as Hamels is concerned, he won't come to Toronto so it's a moot point and the Phillies don't have to trade him this July.
  10. Kelly is hardly a fair comparison since he's a young guy. I could bring up Romero but who knows. I do agree though that Dickey won't be taken out of the rotation.
  11. Also, if you think this lineup won't be as good in 2016 because of declines from Bautista, EE and Martin, then they will still be very good, but with a pitching staff bolstered by a FA SP or 2 and another year of development for Norris, Boyd, Sanchez and Hoffman at AA with arguably Osuna and Castro back as a SP in AA or AAA serving as depth. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
  12. I don't like going all-in for half a year (or even 1 year) at the expense of future years. I'm fine with under-the-radar acquisitions for lesser prospects and/or trading for young guys with years of control, but those don't grow on trees. So you don't think Pillar is an everyday OF, you're not sold on Travis, you think OF depth is an issue, you clearly don't think the starters are good enough, yet you think this team is close enough to trade your top prospects for a half a year of a pitcher or 2 ? Also, it's true that the team hasn't played the FA game, but I think that has something to do with the team president and the vision he's laid out for the team. It's freakin' time they realize overpaying in $$ only is preferable to overpaying in both $$ and prospects. If they want to contend, they'll have to make compromises and overpay for a FA or 2.
  13. Can we stop with the garbage idea that Hutchison is garbage? Yes, he's gotten bad results, but his stats suggest he'll get on a roll. Targets should be buy lows types like the Yankees did with McCarthy last year. There are indications that Latos may have regained his velocity, although that remains to be seen, but these types of trades are what I'd look at. No way I'd be giving up my top prospects when there will be plenty of FA SP in a few months. Play the FA game for a f***ing change.
  14. Half a year of Cueto, Shark and Kazmir for what? Likely 3-4 years of Hutchison, and at least 6 of Norris, Hoffman, Pompey. Pass.
  15. The elite offense will be largely intact for next year, + Saunders + Pompey + Stroman. Go all-in by signing 1 or 2 FA starters and using the young guys as complementary players and depth. Rotation: 1. FA SP. 2. Stroman. 3. FA SP/Buehrle/Hutchison 4. Norris. 5. Estrada/Sanchez/Boyd/Castro/Osuna/Taylor Cole?. Lineup: 1. Reyes SS. 2. Donaldson 3B. 3. Bautista RF. 4. EE DH. 5. Martin C/Smoak 1B/ FA? 6. Smoak 1B/Martin C/ FA? 7. Travis 2B. 8. Saunders LF. 9. Pompey/Pillar CF. Play the FA game.
  16. So many appealing FA SP options. It's time for this franchise to play the FA game and keep it's prospects. Hopefully, the new president understands this and lets his GM know that trading prospects for FA contracts is dumb when you can go out and overpay in FA while keeping the 'spects.
  17. Apparently, Latos has regained his velocity: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/mat-latos-trade-candidate.html
  18. Team shouldn't be shooting for 1 year only anyway. If they "go for it" this year and not make it, what youth will they have for 2017 and beyond when Bautista and EE will either be on their last contracts, but aging, Martin aging and Donaldson approaching FA. I say keep building the organization. Now, if there's a good deal to be made for a young guy under control for several years, then by all means. Basically, I'd be looking for Travis type acquisitions. Loved that one.
  19. Ryan Goins shouldn't be an option and have seen the LF defense this year? It's been bad.
  20. You'd trade Pompey or Travis for 2 months of Shark? Pass.
  21. Runs allowed last 10 games: 06/24 vs Rays: 0 (won 1-0). 06/26 vs Rangers: 2 (won 12-2). 06/27 vs Rangers: 4 (lost 0-4). 06/28 vs Rangers: 2 (won 3-2). 06/29 vs Red Sox: 3 (lost 1-3). 06/30 vs Red Sox: 4 (lost 3-4). 07/01 vs Red Sox: 2 (won 11-2). 07/02 vs Red Sox: 12 (lost 6-12). 07/03 vs Tigers: 8 (lost 6-8). Today vs Tigers: 5 so far.
  22. At this point, I'd prefer Norris and Sanchez taking their turns every 5th day.
  23. Team was always built around offense though, so it's no surprise. Last year, they got better pitching. Last year was less extreme and Stroman and Happ helped.
