  1. They'd be trading more youth to compensate for a failed attempt at upgrading the rotation. Like spinning your wheels, I know Peavy's good, but JJ was thought to be good as well. I'd rather throw money at Garza in the offseason.
  2. What's Peavy making next year? I would think JJ is gone if Peavy comes in unless they're increasing payroll substantially again. He's a good pitcher, but not sure I want another 30+ with an injury history like his.
  3. Dare I shudder at the package AA would have to give up to get him given the number of teams involved? Given that AA already tried to get him, he's like 30 something and has had injury issues, it's quite possible AA gets him.
  4. Good, trade talk heating up, let's hope AA stops eating for enough time to at least deal Oliver and Janssen.
  5. Bautista does whatever he wants on this team, he's basically the franchise or at least he acts as if he thinks he is.
  6. Jeter with a HR in first AB.
  7. Thou shall not question Gibbie. I'm ok with seeing Thole get more playing time, he's the same age as JPA and he'll be the backup catcher next season even if they replace JPA.
  8. I think I'd make it to around 60 games a year. Maybe more when I think about it. I averaged around 60 between 97-2002 at the Big O with some pretty bad teams although it was priceless watching Pedro Martinez in '97 and Vlad Guerrero.
  9. Last year's injuries really did a number on this franchise. I doubt they would've made the stupid trades they made without the injuries. On the other hand, at least we got confirmation that the F/O is dumb. Had they waited another year, the organization would be in very good shape, even if Bautista would be whining about the team not trying to win. Anyway, good to see Hutchison and Drabek showing good health and pitching well. Having these 2 plus Nolin and Stroman start in AAA next season will be much better than all the AAAA guys they had this year.
  10. Goes to show you that it starts with the pitching. Better defense would also help.
  11. Great outing by Drabek. I wonder when they'll move him up to AA.
  12. I've been throwing around something along the same idea. I suggested a Gose/Pillar platoon with Rasmus playing LF when Gose plays and CF when Pillar plays. The money saved on Cabrera would help the payroll and give them a bit of flexibility in going after a 2B/C. Big caveat is getting rid of Cabrera and I Rasmus may not like the idea of moving between LF and CF.
  13. I think it's because they've seen first-hand a team try to win with a big payroll and fail. Although, I think they did make the playoffs once.
  14. Again, neither does Cabrera and for around 7M less, I'd be interested in a platoon in LF/CF with Gose/Pillar and even Davis to use that money elsewhere. I also want to see Janssen traded to save 4M there 'cause to pay Janssen and Santos 4M each is just not how I would use my resources.
  15. I said Rasmus in LF when Gose starts and in CF when Pillar starts. The idea would be to use the money saved on Cabrera to help upgrade 2B/C. Cabrera has no pop or speed either and he gets paid like 8M.
  16. Speaking of Rasmus, what would you be a deal that would entice you to trading him either by wednesday or in the offseason if he doesn't collapse in the remaining 55+ games?
  17. It's an idea to save money in lf/cf to spend it in 2b/C where the team has no near-mlb-ready players. It's a big if of course as Cabrera has a 2 year contract. Edit: Also, Cabrera doesn't have power either, not to mention speed and defense.
  18. Let's say Bud helps out the Jays and suspends Cabrera for 2014. How about a Gose/Pillar CF/LF platoon with Rasmus Playing LF when Gose starts and CF when Pillar starts. It won't happen, but I would use the money saved on Cabrera towards 2b and/or C. Lawrie finding his offensive mojo would be huge and one of the things to watch in what's left of this horrible season.
  19. Well, I don't think that's realistic. They've embarked on this "3-year window" experiment and they simply won't blow it up after one season. They'd look like idiots to a lot of people. Maybe to you, me and so many other posters here, it would be the right thing to do, heck, we wouldn't have even abandoned the rebuilding they had started, but they want to sell tickets and ratings.
  20. When you look at the FA pool, it's pretty thin so they might be better off hoping that he rebounds.
  21. I think we all saw that coming from a mile away. Only Gibbons thinks Lind should be playing against LHP instead of Davis, then again, this helps them tank for a better pick baby!
