  1. About time for Nolin to be promoted, not sure on Jimenez, but we'll see what happens. Hopefully Stroman is making his last AA start tonight before being promoted to AAA.
  2. I doubt we'll see payroll that high next year, but I do think Rogers saw the increase in 2012 and wanted to build on that. It's interesting though because if they had remained patient, they would arguably have ended up being better and more profitable.
  3. Hate to break it to you bro, lol.
  4. Just imagine IF they had stayed the course and not panicked. The team needed to bite the bullet and tank for one more season because of the injuries and Romero's implosion, but it's a business after all.
  5. I don't disagree with you, but writing maricon on his eye patch wouldn't have caused the same uproar in TB that it did in Toronto imo. To me this is another example that some of the moves this organization makes aren't baseball decisions, but based on marketing or other considerations and they are made not by the baseball people, but by others higher up.
  6. He's really been on a nice roll of late. I'd like to see him make a couple of starts in Dunedin before the end of the season.
  7. Best trade AA has made in quite a while.
  8. He was doing well early in the year, but not walking then he started walking and then he slumped. Maybe going through adjustments. It'll be interesting to see how he does next year. At least Andy Burns is showing some promise, maybe they can move him to 2B.
  9. Ain't it obvious? The Jays were supposed to be in contention at this point in the season so no one here was planning on going outside much. Can you see the problem now?
  10. Pretty much agree, especially with the bolded part. I also thought as part of my objections to the trade, 'why not wait to see how the team is playing before trading away your 2 or 3 best prospects'?. We all knew they needed to revamp the rotation with the TJS to Hutchison and Drabek plus Romero's implosion so they got 2 starters in the Marlins trade, but anyway, the rest is history. AA also turned the catcher position from a position of organizational strength into one of weakness especially with JPA as the starter. Anyway, we'll see what they do this offseason.
  11. You can't question Gibbons, nothing's his fault plus he's given up on the season a long time ago.
  12. ? You must be joking. If you're not, then I have no clue why the media should ask Dickey anything about a trade HE DIDN'T make.
  13. I agree with everything you posted, I would just point out that time frame is an issue to be considered. I viewed the trades with the Marlins and Mets as a change in the time frame the f/o was looking at. They decided to speed up or force the time frame for whatever reason, be it wanting to sell tickets or lack of patience. I didn't like the trades from the beginning, but I don't think they were purely based on baseball decisions.
  14. I don't put much stock into what they say publicly. I do think Gibbons seems to like JPA's power and since he's very close to AA, I find that combination very ominous. What they do with the C position will be very telling in terms of their identification of the problems with this team.
  15. I just find it hard to continually bash the team when I picked them to win 90 games even if I was fine with continuing to rebuild through the farm and by acquiring guys like Rasmus, Escobar, etc. I've certainly gone on some rants at the team myself before getting over the disappointment and frustration. I can see where some are coming from when such a promising group of prospects was given up to contend now and the team has tanked.
  16. It can still happen in the offseason. I certainly don't see how they can pay both Santos and Janssen 4M each next year, it makes no sense. I think you trade the guy who will get you a better return, I'd imagine that's Janssen, but who knows.
  17. Attendance will go down, beginning with the 2nd half this year. I think you'll see many no-shows at the game, even if tickets are sold. I hope it's noticeable enough for ownership to put some pressure on Beeston, whom I believe was behind the trades to a good extent. Next year's attendance will be down very early on, but if the team is contending, it'll improve as the season goes along. If the team is again bad, attendance will go down again and they'll fire AA and go back to rebuilding...again.
  18. You're right. The team went out and completely revamped the starting rotation. In fact, right now, all 5 starters were acquired in the last 12 months or so. They just haven't performed like many expected them to. Even the harshest critics on this board picked them to contend for a playoff spot even if they now act as if they didn't. I remember threads in the MLB board where people discussed the starting staff as a top 5 or 10 in MLB. I disagreed with the trades, including the Happ trade, but I did pick them to win between 88-92 games which would put them in contention.
  19. He should've been asked about it already, but the media was part of the hyping machine, even those that don't work for Rogers. It's interesting that they had gotten on board with the idea that the team was rebuilding its farm system and acquiring buys like Lawrie, Escobar, Morrow and Rasmus, but then the team changes course completely and they just went along with it. It would be long overdue for anyone in the media to analyze why they changed direction so abruptly and desperately. I say desperately because that's the sense that I got from the Marlins and Mests' trades.
  20. Reyes isn't moving to 2B next season, can we put an end to this already? Upgrade C and 2B, hope for the best from Cabrera unless you can get rid of his $. They'll have to hope on Morrow being healthy and rebounding, Dickey rebounding and contributions from Hutch, Nolin, Stroman. JJ coming back on a 1 year deal would be great, but I think he'll rather take a 1 year deal with a NL team that has a big stadium.
  21. You make a good point, but it's better to just bash the team despite the fact that some of us who're doing the bashing picked them to win around 90 games, it's just the way it works.
  22. Nothing against grass, but isn't it embarrassing enough to have drunk jays' fans? Imagine high Jays' fans. On the other hand, they may behave much better than the drunks so you might be on to something here.
  23. Well, a lot of people have argued that this was the case already, just replace "past-their-prime-losers" with "never-done-anything-losers". They also argued that it was because of F/A's not wanting to sign with the Blue Jays that they went out and overpaid in $ and prospects. In a way, you could argue that increasing payroll and sticking with it next year may give them a better chance to attract F/A than by having an up-and-coming-team. On the other hand, I seem to remember that Jason Grilli allegedly turned down more money from the Jays to remain with the Pirates, but it might've had something to do with having an opportunity to close so who knows.
