  1. M's GM trying to be the Moore/AA of this off season, maybe AA can redeem himself to an extent by screwing him in a trade.
  2. Hard to disagree with you. The only thing I'd say is that one of them still has to learn to catch Dickey in ST.
  3. Hopefully one of Navarro/Kratz can catch Dickey thus creating some competition for Thole. Another reason I disliked the Dickey deal was the whole designated catcher situation. The team even signed Henry Blanco mainly because Dickey told AA he was the best at catching him, it's just not something I like.
  4. I think the Twins may be overpaying a bit to sign the guys they've signed, but that might be what a bad team has to do to get FA to sign with them. What they've done is preferable to trading away part of their future to address their pitching holes. It seems AA has the opposite view. I still hope he goes the FA route rather than trade away more of the future. Sanchez's value has fallen and while Stroman's is up, he's so close to the majors that he could start contributing next year and at such a low salary. I'm hoping the increasing cost of pitching will help AA find a taker for Happ and some of the relievers and use the savings to sign a FA or 2 to address a couple of the holes, but it's not looking good right now.
  5. I think they'd spend some of the 80 mil and take the rest as profit, just like a well-run company that outsmarts its competition and makes a bigger profit.
  6. I guess it's part of the off season to hope/dream for all sorts of trade scenarios. Realistically, if Bailey was available, AA would have to outbid several teams for him. I'd like to see AA make a quality FA signing for once.
  7. I would think that if Rasmus were traded, Lind's offense would be more important than a 4th OF especially since you could find a 4th OF in FA, but who knows, AA's the Ninja.
  8. Too bad AA didn't take this into account when he paid so dearly for him. In fact, he said at the time that that was the price of getting a #1 starter. Oh well too late now, a direction has been taken by the franchise and they seem intent on staying this course.
  9. Pressure builds on AA to get Samardzija and a catcher. Given the payroll inflexibility, I can see AA looking at the 5M Samardzija will make in arbitration and thinking if he can get him, he'd have money left over to go after a 2B like Infante or go after another SP. Good bye Sanchez and/or Stroman +
  10. I was trying to sleep early tonight...oh well.
  11. I wouldn't know whether this is sure or not, that's for sure, but I'm not sure that means he was failing while with the Blue Jays. Maybe that early AA failure did serve him well and who's to say he wouldn't have showed the same improvements he showed with the Marlins had he not been traded. Overall, what I'm saying is that the top prospects that were traded away were doing well with the Blue Jays and while I get the frustration for the lack of homegrown talent, I don't think that applies to the AA regime, at least not yet. In fact, if Syndergaard, d'Arnaud and Nicolino do well, it would be a compliment to AA although it would also be a condemnation of his asset-management skills. And yes, I'd fire AA for the trades he's made starting with the Happ trade, but the one thing he was doing reasonably well was building up the farm system. Anyway...too late now
  12. I wouldn't have even traded d'Arnaud for Dickey straight up and said so at the time of the trade not only because he was the Jays' #1 prospect, but also because it also meant that the organization thought JPA was the catcher of the future which in itself is very damaging.
  13. I wish the Jays had kept the prospects, especially Syndergaard and d'Arnaud, but I disagree with you about the recent prospects. Syndergaard, Marisnick and d'Arnaud were doing very well while with the Blue Jays. Syndergaard was flat out dominant with Lansing, he just continued to improve in 2013. We all know d'Arnaud's only issue has been staying healthy. Marisnick had made it to AA in 2012 and while he struggled there, it's not that uncommon for promoted prospects to take some time to adjust to the higher level. Nicolino was also doing fine with the Blue Jays. Don't get me wrong, we're all frustrated and I get the larger point about the failure to develop a cornerstone player since Halladay. I do think that AA's drafting will end up looking pretty good, unfortunately, he has traded away most of the good things he did and should be canned just for the Dickey trade which will end up haunting this franchise for years.
  14. I understand that, but given how AA has been overpaying in trades for SP in the last 16-18 months, I think I'd prefer to overpay a FA. The team doesn't have many commitments past 2015 so they may be able to make it work. I actually think AA will focus on trades rather than sign FA, it's just his MO.
  15. Remember all that catching depth the Jays had about 14 months ago? Didn't think so, me neither.
  16. Pitchers trying to reestablish their value are not signing with the Blue Jays, it's just not smart.
  17. At this point, I'd rather AA overpay a FA than finish off the farm-decimation he started last year unless he's getting a young #2 or 1 which is very unlikely. Hey, in 3 years, Romero's deal will be off the books!
  18. I'd try at all cost to avoid trading Stroman and Sanchez. Signing 1 SP is all the budget will allow so I'd be ok with Nolasco, Jimenez and others mentioned. If Porcello can be acquired for relievers, then even better. I think no matter how you slice it, the team's ability to contend will hinge on whether or not Dickey can pitch close to his 2010-12 level and Morrow pitching like he did in 2012 as well as healthy seasons from the key position players. Improving C should be up there with getting a solid SP and if the budget allows it, improving 2B would be great. They won't get a 1 SP so improving the team in as many areas as possible should be the priority.
  19. As long as he's not a homophobe...!
  20. Sanchez/Stroman would have to be part of the deal, no doubt.
  21. I'd rather see AA overpay for Jimenez or Garza, but he'll probably trade away more of the farm.
  22. AA probably offered 3 years plus an option or something like that and given that Vargas got 4 years, that wouldn't cut it. It's probably just to have an excuse for overpaying for Samardzija.
  23. We'll see what happens, but given AA's masochist tendencies, he'll probably get killed in this possible trade. I'd actually rather overpay for a risky starter in FA than give up what I think AA will end up coughing up for Samardzija.
  24. If the team has been as bad at drafting/developing over AA's tenure, then why are we so upset at the gutting of the farm system last year? And don't get me wrong, I've lost my trust in AA, but if they were so bad at drafting and developing, they wouldn't have had such a highly ranked system. I would've been perfectly content with keeping the prospects they traded away and wait for the horrible farm system to start graduating guys. Guys like d'Arnaud, Syndergaard, Nicolino, to name a few, were doing just fine while in the Blue Jays system, it's not like they were struggling and finally put it all together once they joined the Marlins and Mets orgs. How about Lawrie? Lawrie didn't struggle in the Jays system, in fact, his defense was supposed to be his weakness and he developed that just fine. I'm not saying the Jays are the Rays or Cards, but I think there's some exaggerating going on.
  25. Come on guys, he's clearly trying to entertain us or did all of you miss the part about Matt Kemp? Lol.
