  1. As far as the "USA, USA!" chants go, obviously awful, but what do some of you think of the Canadian flags carried around by Blue Jays fans when supporting the team on the road?
  2. For the record, I don't think either should've bunted.
  3. Could very well have been. Although, in such an instance, I think the manager should make it clear to the batter after the first attempt that he wants him swinging away.
  4. What's so unbelievable about it, happens a lot more than you realize.
  5. Not asking a s***** hitter to bunt yet asking a better one, oh wait...
  6. I don't even know why Revere was asked to bunt in the first place.
  7. Also, wasn't Bautista in decline after the 2012 season? And, are we still concerned about EE?
  8. Let's face it, the team was supposed to be in tatters by now after the horrible Marlins and Mets trades, but it isn't.
  9. It's the other way around, to a good extent, it's AA's drafting, development and trades that have saved his own ass and have resulted in a very good team attracting sold-out crowds and record-breaking tv ratings for his employer. All of this before Shapiro has made a single move, not that I'm against his hiring, au contraire, I like his hiring. We'll see what happens.
  10. Probably 5 or 6 chicks baring the tits for them.
  11. To all of those saying, "first take care of the Yankees and then worry 'bout the Royals", it's the other way around, if the Jays catch the Royals, it's very unlikely that the Yankees would catch the Jays.
  12. Yanks are thinking: "7-3 in last 10 games and no ground gained, f***ing Blue Jays!".
  13. Shapiro is involved with the Competition Committee and with Digital Ticketing. He has also overseen some renovations at Progressive Field so you can expect him to continue the work Beeston was doing in trying to install a grass field at the RC. He will have plenty of things to work on, plus I'm sure he'll take some time to get used to living in a f***ing igloo.
  14. I don't see Shapiro letting go of AA. Team is booming, on and off the field. No need to make wholesale changes. He can impact the team's direction without rocking the boat. For example, he could direct AA to trade Bautista or EE for a nice return in the off season and oversee the actual return before approving any deal. We'll see what happens.
  15. Even if you're not an AA supporter, a team president with Shapiro's track record will set the vision for the franchise and will work with his GM to achieve said vision. As I said in another rant, he would likely not have allowed his GM to make the moves the team made after the 2012 season. We'll see what happens...
  16. El Presidente! Great decision. Jays having an awesome year from ownership on down to the field, including the current GM.
  17. I wonder how you go from Kenny Williams to Mark Shapiro. Blind luck or did Rogers finally realize how much money they'd make with an efficiently-run baseball ops? I still think AA could fit in as part of the puzzle here. I mean, he has rebuilt the farm system twice so I could see Shapiro being fond of that aspect. I'm sure he'll look negatively at the desperate trades he made after the 2012 season, but it wouldn't surprise me if internally, it was revealed to Shapiro that the GM was pushed to improve the team at any cost instead of going into 2013 with a team expected to lose 90 games. This is not to say that I don't hold AA accountable for the trades, I just think that a president like Shapiro wouldn't allow such moves unless he was also under a lot of pressure from his bosses to field a team that could draw decent ratings and attendance. Now, if Beeston is involved in the hiring process, I think he'd take care of AA. On the other hand, I don't know squat.
  18. I wonder if McCann will get in Gose's face like he did with Iglesias or does he only hate Mexicans?
  19. For the record, I'm all for hiring Shapiro or someone like him. I doubt the team would've veered from its plan after the 2012 season. In fact, Shapiro may have fired AA on the spot if he came into his office with the Marlins trade proposal. Unless, of course, the team prez was goading the GM to improve the team at any cost. We'll see what happens.
  20. Also, if AA had a terrible farm system, they would never have been able to make the trades they've made since after the 2012 season.
  21. Does anyone know if Beeston is involved in picking his successor? I think I remember reading somewhere that he would be involved in the process after Ed Rogers made a mess of it all last off season?
  22. And the Jays didn't win 86 games in 2009 either which was part of the reason trading Halladay was discussed during the 2009 season after it was learned Halladay would not sign an extension.
  23. Big Pompey supporter here, but this is very simplistic and short-sighted. Pompey/Pillar/Revere/Saunders/Bautista could work even if Pompey isn't a full-time starter right away. His being a switch-hitter works in his favour. The thing that does concern me with Pompey is whether the coaches have sent "bad attitude" reports (whatever this means) to the F/O. I say this because I have no clue why they'd prefer Carrera over Pompey as the 4th OF although they could still make the switch before Aug 31st. Also, I've said in the past I could see the Jays trading Pillar for a pitcher during the offseason.
  24. Jays' hitters sure haven't stopped swinging the bats despite the scoreboard
