I wonder how you go from Kenny Williams to Mark Shapiro. Blind luck or did Rogers finally realize how much money they'd make with an efficiently-run baseball ops?
I still think AA could fit in as part of the puzzle here. I mean, he has rebuilt the farm system twice so I could see Shapiro being fond of that aspect. I'm sure he'll look negatively at the desperate trades he made after the 2012 season, but it wouldn't surprise me if internally, it was revealed to Shapiro that the GM was pushed to improve the team at any cost instead of going into 2013 with a team expected to lose 90 games.
This is not to say that I don't hold AA accountable for the trades, I just think that a president like Shapiro wouldn't allow such moves unless he was also under a lot of pressure from his bosses to field a team that could draw decent ratings and attendance.
Now, if Beeston is involved in the hiring process, I think he'd take care of AA. On the other hand, I don't know squat.
