  1. Based on what? Martin is the only great framer to get a big contract. A lot of great framers who *should* be worth 2+ wins with a whole season of playing time are signing contracts for a couple million bucks as a backup. Someone like Tyler Flowers is an elite framer, and he was just non-tendered by the White Sox in favour of Alex Avila and Dioner Navarro before signing a 2/5 + an option free agent deal in Atlanta. Nobody was willing to pay for his framing. I don't think you can say that framing runs have the same market value as other runs, because they very clearly don't.

This pleases me. But what's driving it?
  3. I remember when it was en vogue to mock the idea that elite bullpens played up in the playoffs. Oops. Not talking about specific teams, I think you could rationalize a good enough argument for contact hitters outperforming high-K power hitters in October that it warrants looking at the data. Maybe someone has looked at the data and found that there's nothing there.

Leafs fans getting salty that the team is being mocked because them and the shitbag goalie they overpaid for couldn't hold a 4-0 lead against the f***ing Jets. Have some self-respect.
  5. Fun fact: Gibbons is 103rd all-time in manager wins and could move into the top 85 next year.
  6. I feel like there might be something to the idea that teams who rely more on walks and mashing mistakes for homers might have less success in cold weather against great pitching staffs who issue few walks and don't make many mistakes. Recent anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that contact teams have fared well in the postseason.
  7. I'm not upset about this, but I'm certainly not happy.
  8. Unfortunately, his great 2015 production has nothing to do with an evaluation of his value in 2017 and beyond.
  9. Suggestions to trade Happ remind me of the suggestions to trade from the OF last offseason, in that we don't have a surplus: we have satisfactory depth. For the first time I can remember they're entering an offseason with 5 good starting pitchers, and there should be no motivation to subtract from that unless they add another.
  10. I have a problem with people looking at framing numbers and extrapolating the run values to WAR to comment on a catcher's financial market value. Teams have shown that they're willing to pay for offense and some aspects of catcher defense, but nobody is paying money for framing. They're certainly not paying for it at $8M per 10 runs, like they are for other quantifiable skills. There's no way Martin gets 3/60 on the market this offseason, even though his framing suggests that he should, for the same reason that Eric Kratz wasn't worth $100M.
  11. What did he cost you? Like $1500?
  12. I wouldn't be opposed to giving Jason Castro like 2/10 or something. No idea if he'd be OK catching 50 games, but he's a 1-2 win upgrade on Thole.
  13. Voted 3. He's 21, has already had TJS once, and was experiencing shoulder pain this year. He's a red flag to have a short career as is, and doubling or tripling his usage likely exacerbates that.
  14. What about Angel Pagan?
  15. Nope, I definitely don't want to trade for a second Pillar. That skill set doesn't age well. I'm fine keeping the one that's here though.
  16. I was vehemenly against it until like August, and then on the fence. Now I love him.
  17. The projections I've seen actually have him as a 110-120 wRC+ guy. He'd be a lot of fun on a 1-year deal.
  18. Inciarte is great, but he probably costs Stroman or Sanchez. Not sure how much sense that makes for the team.

    lmao leafs
  20. Tacking on a guaranteed year in 2018 + a 2019 option would be alright for me. 13 and 13 with a buyout? Hard to see him falling off a cliff given that he doesn't rely on a fastball and has that crazy changeup.

How you guys liking Freddy Andersen?
  22. I really can't fathom a scenario in which he has more than a bench role to start the year. There's just no way they think that's acceptable. I really, really want him off the team though.
  23. Estrada is a boss. Is it too early to talk about extending him? He's a free agent after 2017
  24. Prado signed for 3/40. And I think they can get Benoit for 1/4 or so. Actually, starting the offseason by signing Benoit for 1 + an option would be nice.
