I think the Padres are perceiving an OF logjam that doesn't really exist. It's Grisham, Pham, and Myers with Olivares and Naylor as the 4th and 5th guys. Preller is the GM version of the BJMB posters who freak out every spring about all the studs who will be blocked at the MLB level.

His comment was stupid and unproductive, but it wasn’t directed at anyone in particular. If you wanted to respond to it you could have (and later did) by pointing out why some fans might be legitimately upset, and not by calling him a terrible poster and person or whatever it was.

Shaw is free to opt out or earn 1.5M or whatever for two months of inconvenience. Either choice is defensible. Don't choose to play and then whine about the restrictions imposed because you'll be crossing a closed border.

Vlad is a fat guy. He's always been fat and always will be fat. Sure, it would be good if he got less fat and actually became a mobile defender and decent baserunner, but I don't think its in the cards.

I've been saying this for years. Vlad doesn't "gain value" by costing the team 15 runs with horrible 3B defense. There's nothing lost by moving an incompetent defender down on the defensive spectrum.

Yeah. I pay for BA and have paid for BP and The Athletic, but Fangraph’s current group of writers are so untalented that I’m annoyed at the idea of supporting them financially. That wouldn’t have been true a few years ago when they had a great group of writers. And if they want people to turn off their ad-blockers, they have to get rid of their pop-up adds. As much as people gave Cameron s***, Meg Rowley has run the site into the ground since taking over for him. Which is a shame, because she was actually a good writer and would have been an asset to them before being promoted beyond her abilities.

At least part of the reason why I wasn't inclined to discuss the deal was irrational: I own him in LoD and think it will be fun to own him across both leagues. But he also fits in with my core age-wise: Soto is 21 and Acuna is 22.
