There is no reason to take on a bad contract at this point. Draft picks are great, but this team should still win 45 at the minimum, discounting any major injuries ovcourse. I expect this to be a low 50 win team that enters the playoffs with a good seed and at least makes it to the second round. I don’t expect a finals visit, but playoffs with a bunch of expiring contracts and a ton of cap space after just winning a title is an excellent position to be in. We all wish Kawhi signed, but he didn’t win it on his own, he came to an already very good team that was missing a true leader. We have some key young pieces to build the next team around and this front office seems very capable of getting us into serious contention very quickly.
They may very well trade for a bad contract and bring in a Westbrook, but we really don’t need too when we can still be playoff bound this coming season and then be able to strengthen the team the following two season with all the cap space.
