  1. It's the market they are in. I'm sure most fans would love to see their team with a top 10 payroll, but if not then having a GM who can be successful with a lower ranking payroll is a great thing. At the end of the day Billy Beane has done wonders for that organization.
  2. I think he was referring to his LO#D team.
  3. It's the process that has led to so much success for the A's over the years.
  4. Sure, but some teams make things a lot more obvious.
  5. If our rotation was stronger at the top I'd be more inclined to gamble on Morrow for the 5th spot, but at this point AA can't gamble in that regard, since we are essentially counting on two young arms to lead the way with a couple of vet innings eaters. We have some good in house options, so I'm glad he is going that route instead.
  6. And not our problem anymore. That's the best part.
  7. This link below will provide you with current salary projections. The thread is updated periodically by BTS as signings/trades are made. Just look at the first post in the thread. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/3793-Offseason-roster-thread-2014
  8. No one knows how much they have to spend, it's all just speculation. They never release hard numbers.
  9. If he failed the medical then the deal would be rejected, so it's basically just working out a new deal. No reason for the Padres to honor the deal since passing the medical would be a part of it.

The Raptors are the cool thing right now, band wagoners are not going to jump off after 1 regular season loss, doesn't matter who the opponent is.
  11. Stroman is already a #2 at this point and could emerge as an ace this season. Hutch displayed quite a bit of promise last season and should take a big step forward with Martin behind the plate. Buehrle and Dickey are durable inning eaters and Estrada has had success in the past and was likely an undervalued asset this winter. I'm not sure why you doubt Norris is ready? Sanchez has at least shown he can pitch out of the pen if needed as well. It's not an elite group by any means but when you have a lineup that features the quality of players we have, this rotation is quite sufficient.

    Can't see that happening.
  13. That's a fair point, who knows how much funds willbe available at the trade deadline, but that doesn't mean AA can't get creative. I firmly believe if AA was sold on this team being a legit contender at the dealine he would make a strong case to ownership for another push.
  14. Good point. Although I'm not sure I'd expect Osuna up in 2015.
  15. How so? We have 7 legitimate options for our rotation at this point between Dickey, Buehrle, Stroman, Hutch, Estrada, Sanchez, and Norris. Add in a guy like Redmond or Jenkins who can spot start if needed and we are fine.
  16. It's as easy as spending $20-$25 million just because.
  17. As exciting as getting a guy like Shields would be, we really don't need him. The biggest need right now is 2B and the pen, and we may already have our long term solution for 2B in house. The pen is the easiest area to address and it makes sense AA is feeling out the market and not blowing significant money on the top tier RP. We still have Navarro in house who is likely to get traded as well, and RP in return makes a lot of sense. I just don't see as much concern here to be honest. I mean worst case scenario, one of Estrada or Sanchez end up in the pen, AA gets a RP for Navarro and we also have Cecil, Loup, and Redmond. Rasmussen has also looked like he could be serviceable and Jenkins makes a fine long man. Plus we have Delabar who is a big wild card. It's not a great group, but it's not going to prevent this team from contending either.
  18. People have unrealistic expectations. AA has done a tremendous job this winter, yet he doesn't do anything for what two weeks now and we're all of a sudden in limbo? This is a contender without doing anything else, but it would be silly to think AA is done yet.

Maybe the Raptors should learn to beat them first.
  20. Friedman just ridding himself of all the dead weight.
  21. Wow, never thought Anderson would get that much.
  22. Grant would just disappear from the forum for days until things blew over. Biggest coward of all time.
  23. I think the bigger question is will the manager who let him play a full season still keep his job?
