  1. "Foreign country" and "higher taxes" get thrown around by Jays apologists as reasons some free agents don't want to come here. (same goes for guys who block trades). As we know, Canada isn't that foreign and it's been shown that Canada/Ontario taxes are not the highest in MLB. More like 8th highest out of 30 teams IIRC. Plus, that gets watered down by being taxed everywhere you travel (This was discussed at length during the RA Dickey extension talks) Bottom line, most realists think that 20 years of losing is the biggest problem. Not the thought of living in Canada for 85 or so days a year or paying higher taxes than you would in Florida. The problem isn't unique to us. Guys don't want to sign with perennial losers like Minnesota or Houston either.
  2. Jeez, if he provides anything to the big club from the 8th round for a $5,000 signing bonus you gotta be happy.
  3. Aren't you like 5'9 and 160 lbs?
  4. Looks like the move to the outfield may have been necessary even if the concussions and catcher position risk weren't an issue
  5. Yeah I read that yesterday. It actually does make sense. But it's probably not enough of a difference maker to bother at this point.
  6. Lind should stop reading
  7. Doesn't matter 20 plus years without even a sniff of the post season is plenty of reason for quality free agents to stay away
  8. Jays were known to be very concerned about his injury history. Concussions, lower body injuries and hand injuries all by the time he got to AAA.
  9. d'Aranud's bat doesn't seem likely to play well in LF. At one point people used terms like "possible middle of the order bat" with regards to him, but that was a long time ago. I guess keeping him healthy is the main priority now. But a career path of "4th outfielder" suddenly seems plausible for him. That's not what the Mets thought they were getting as half the package for their Cy Young winner.
  10. Oh my blob what's happening here...
  11. Yep. Given what mediocre but healthy starters are going for these days (10-13M per season), taking a cheaper gamble on an unhealthy but higher end starter looks appealing to some teams.
  12. ^ Spanky style
  13. Yep. Didn't really matter which league/park Johnson was scheduled to pitch in THIS year.
  14. Joe Nathan says FU angrioter!
  15. I'd happily take him at 4M with plans to be an 8th inning guy with a shot at closing. Kind of what Delabar was/was expected to be.
  16. Even in his worst months he's still a league average bat or slightly better. I suspect every other batter on this team has months way worse than that. He's been our steadiest hitter.
  17. To me the most pleasant surprise was Melky. So steady all year, really never had a single significant slump. Easily the biggest disappointment was Ramsus; what a horrible season. Last year was such a tease and he crashed right back to mediocrity.
  18. Duds - Rasmus, Morrow, Janssen, Santos, Goins (but we knew he'd be so he didn't necessarily disappoint the way the other 4 did) Studs - Bautista, Stroman, Cecil, Melky
  19. Probably. And AA won't do one of those. Boston, Chicago Cubs or Texas might.
  20. I think AA grossly underestimated how much his lack of serious activity over the last 8-9 months would undermine the team's morale. Teams that were already better than us have made significant additions while we've done nothing but waiver wire pickups. I concede that in Oakland's case the addition of Lester came with enormous offensive loss and I would not have wanted AA to make a trade equivalent to that. But damn, even a solid 2B or BP addition should have been easily manageable. These players were thinking the same thing and it shows.
  21. So... We're done with Casey? When was his last clean inning?
  22. LOL Neither of those adds up to 162 Oh boy...
