  1. They should have kept Russel Martin, and started anybody but Phil Hughes.
  2. Yeah. Tough year for the Yankees for sure. Especially after spending 220 million dollars or more.
  3. Well OK, but really that's just us guessing what ownership is thinking
  4. It's important only to ownership and as it relates to luxury tax thresholds
  5. So, we let a guy who ended up hitting under .200 get the second most plate appearances on the team. There is something just sooo wrong with that.
  6. Good one by Wilner actually: Edwin Encarnacion had the most plate appearances on the team this year. Guess who had the second most?
  7. So far Defense big part of the problem Lind needs a platoon partner Bench needs to be upgraded - having Goins, DeRosa, Gose and a backup catcher is not good enough Not enough SP depth in 2013 Gibbons not the problem Most of the same stuff we've been saying
  8. From earlier today. Over 40 minutes long. I'm 15 minutes in and it's a good discussion. So far I also agree with pretty much everything they've said. http://pmd.fan590.com/podcasts/jeff_blair/jb_20130930_105739--The-Jeff-Blair-Show---September-30---10am.mp3
  9. Of course if depends on the market and availability too Trade for a 2 WAR 2B because there's none available via free agency and you can't afford Cano? Fine. Trade for a 2 WAR catcher this off season? Ridiculous, because you can sign a really good one for $$ and not even lose a first round pick for the best ones.
  10. This is just so right on
  11. That's the irony of it isn't it? He never would have given Jose Reyes that contract as a free agent 2 off seasons ago. But last off season he trades assets to acquire him with that contract.
  12. Seriously?!?!?!
  13. Seriously though I think it's more about overpaying in $$$ and also about ability to attract players to Toronto. He has admitted that it's a problem with our crappy track record over the last 20 years. Good players don't want to come to a loser. It's a catch 22. Good players will help make the team a winner. But it's hard to get them here when you're a loser. The positive note as he's said is that once a player is here, they seem to have an easy time getting them to stay.
  14. Hahahaha. I know. Lifetime Cardinal for sure.
  15. Caveat: Unless he plans to trade for Joe Mauer or Yadier Molina... Which he's not. So lure a free agent. Please.
  16. They had a protected pick last year and didn't so I'm not holding my breath. AA saying yesterday they're likely to look at trade market to fill holes. Come on AA, please try to lure a good free agent catcher. Spend the $$, save the roster this time.
  17. Final official draft order and notes, from MLBTR. 2 lines bolded by me. 2014 MLB Draft Order By Charlie Wilmoth [september 29 at 8:59pm CST] With the 2013 MLB regular season now over, here's the current order for the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft. First, some notes: •The draft order is determined in reverse order of record. If two or more teams have the same record, the tie-breaker is 2012 record, with the team with the worse 2012 record getting the higher pick. That's why, for example, the Cubs (61-101 in 2012) pick ahead of the Twins (66-96 in 2012), even though the two teams had the same record this season. •Notably, the Athletics and the Braves had identical 96-66 records in 2013 and 94-68 records in 2012. MLB.com's Jim Callis confirms in an email that the next tie-breaker is 2011 record, and the A's were worse that year, so they will pick before the Braves. •The winner of Monday's Wild Card tie-breaker between the Rangers and Rays (which counts as a regular-season game) will get the No. 23 overall pick, while the loser will take No. 22. •The Jays have pick No. 11 in addition to their usual first-round pick, since they did not sign 2013 No. 10 overall pick Phil Bickford. The No. 11 pick is a protected pick for the Jays. •Teams may have to forfeit first-round draft picks when they sign free agents who have been extended qualifying offers, so this list is subject to change later this season. The first eleven picks of this year's draft, however, are protected, so those teams would lose a second-round pick for signing a player who has received and rejected a qualifying offer. Without further ado, here's the order. 1. Astros 2. Marlins 3. White Sox 4. Cubs 5. Twins 6. Mariners 7. Phillies 8. Rockies 9. Blue Jays 10. Mets 11. Blue Jays (for failing to sign 2013 No. 10 pick Phil Bickford) 12. Brewers 13. Padres 14. Giants 15. Angels 16. Diamondbacks 17. Orioles 18. Yankees 19. Royals 20. Nationals 21. Reds 22. Rangers or Rays 23. Rangers or Rays 24. Indians 25. Dodgers 26. Tigers 27. Pirates 28. Athletics 29. Braves 30. Red Sox 31. Cardinals
  18. Cubs fired Dale Sveum today
  19. Oh yeah we had him at 2B a few times didn't we. Forgot. I find most of our second baseman easily forgettable.
  20. Didn't know that about Hech's contract. So we paid 8M ish to him and he never played a major league game in a Blue Jays uniform? Incredible. So much wasted $$ on this team lately. Romero. Happ. Johnson. Melky. Ug just Ug.
  21. I have more of a problem with the s***** performance of the guys we got (Johnson, Bonifacio especially) more so than what we gave away in the Marlins trade. Hech is brutal and paid a lot more than league minimum, so it actually helped to get rid of him. Marisnick is not looking like anything special. Escobar hurts but it was a forgone conclusion that he was leaving. Alvarez hurts a bit and I liked him, but I'm very happy with Buerhle and Reyes, contracts notwithstanding. If Josh Johnson had had even a 2 WAR season (he should have surpassed that) then it wouldn't hurt nearly so bad to see what Alvarez did this year.
