Oh, absolutely If all star break 2014 this team is out of the playoff picture already it's clearly time to give up. And you could get fantastic returns on guys like Lind, Bautista, Santos and Buerhle at that point from teams on the bubble, with money and holes in their lineups/rotations/bullpens. If the team contends in 2014, then you keep the majority of these guys and continue to tweak, carefully trading guys away to keep the farm in reasonable shape and filling holes where you need to.

This is all exactly right. Did we like AA going all in this off season with no thought of the future? No. But now that he's done it and ONE season has failed (mostly due to a crazy number of under performances and injuries) it's not time to abandon ship.

Exactly how I feel. This hasn't failed yet. Load up again as best you can this off season. If it's clearly still not working by mid 2014 start dealing guys away at the trade deadline and focus in getting younger and cheaper.

He is 5 or more years older I guess so probably yeah just based on that Though he was obviously much better in his prime than Fielder ever was or will be. And always in way better shape than Prince.

Just about every one of us wanted the Jays to sign Anibal Sanchez last year. Gotta say I'd feel better about the 2014 rotation if we had him in there with Dickey and Buerhle already.

The players the Dodgers got from Boston added up to 7 WAR this year, and the Red Sox essentially just saved a crapload of money and bought cheaper players through free agency.
