I *think* I agree Def extend him if you can. If the contract is reasonable it makes him all the more tradable later anyhow if plans change.

Has AA allowed any player to actually get to arbitration?? He usually seems to extend or do 1 year deals to avoid it.

Yeah if AA extends him now he'll probably try to save in 2014 so he can afford pitching, hoping Stoman and Sanchez save him $$ after next year.

I don't think it would take that much. He hasn't earned a salary > 10M yet. He's had exactly one full really good season.

It's team friendly yes. But he's been year to year for quite a while now and figures to get no more than 5M in arbitration and have to prove himself again. I'm not sure he turns that down. And I'd go an extra 1-2M per year or add a 5th if needed to seal the deal.

Yes. This is exactly the type of guy AA should be signing this off season. Colon, Hudson, Kuroda, etc. Stabilize the rotation on a short term deal for an older guy while we see what becomes of Stroman/Sanchez/Hutch/Drabek. Did they all get qualifying offers? If so, the protected first round pick plays nicely here. Other teams interested might lose their first rounder and therefore balk at signing them.
