  1. Barry Bonds is back in the biz! Exclusive: Barry Bonds will be spring training Giants instructor http://www.mercurynews.com/giants/ci_25207393/exclusive-barry-bonds-will-be-spring-training-giants
  2. Obviously not. I should have maybe qualified that by "if he contiunues to play well".
  3. Name this player
  4. Yeah I think this is his ceiling. And he seems legitimately prone to half-season long hitting slumps. As I mentioned above I'd value him somewhere between his 2 good years and 2 mediocre ones. If he signs now for something you're happy with, great. If he won't then trade mid season or QO/draft pick, whichever you think gets you more value in return. If we knew Gose was good to go, then trading Rasmus last year would have made more sense. These two have NOT made it easy to know what to do with them I'll tell ya.
  5. Gardner Gose and Bautista would be a pretty sexy defensive outfield with some speed and pop in 2015 Except if we can't afford to keep Rasmus we won't be able to afford Gardner either. Other teams will probably rightfully value Gardner more highly than AA or Cashman will.
  6. Funny and quite possibly true at the same time
  7. Right. Which was my only point. I'd LOVE to see a 180 IP all star season from Morrow and he's capable of it. It just seems like AA is banking on too much good luck coming his way and it could really bite him in the ass. Jimenez or Capuano signing would have mitigated against disaster.
  8. Yep. if you extend him now you probably have to assume he's going to have 2 good years and 2 mediocre years when you calculate what you're willing to pay. If you wait until mid season or later you get more info but you also risk it costing you more. Colby is bit of a deliemma no doubt.
  9. Ditto. Cruz will hit more HR but Melky is.probably better on every other way if he's truly healthy again.
  10. LOL good point. But I don't think he'd turn it down again. This actually seems like a decent deal for Baltimore.
  11. Now, Colby doesn't have the injury or PED flags that some of these guys have had. But he's also never had an all star season. He fits right in that category of "good enough for a QO but not so good that teams will shrug off the compensation draft pick"
  12. LOL yes But I don't think Colby would turn down a QO if Toronto makes him one next off season I think a lot more of these mid-tier free agents will accept them over the next year or two until they change the system.
  13. In a related story, Tony and Colby Rasmus now open to discussing a reasonable 4 year extension with Alex Anthopoulos.
  14. Well.to be fair we did similar with Melky last year and I loved the signing. Last year sucked for Melky obviously but he has another year to make it up. We didn't need Cruz but we should be attempting a similar cheap signing of Drew instead.
  15. LOL. Cost himself 6M and his agent probably 15% of that.
  16. Should have taken the QO, sucka
  17. There we go. Again, once you get what I like to call a "Rosenthal credibility tweet" the deal tends to get announced within a few hours if not minutes.
  18. He is 33 years old and hasn't had a really good offensive season since 2010. When he was (presumambly) on something too. And his defense doesn't look good on paper the past few years. (I haven't paid much attention to him the last couple years so hadn't noticed how he looks)
  19. Cruz couId definitely be mediocre. It's a risk. I thought Mets or Mariners would sign. Both need OF help. They've both already blown their first draft pick too haven't they??
  20. I have to admit that an OF of Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and Nelson Cruz COULD be pretty good
  21. Well this is exactly what I'm HOPING for. I love Morrow. I just don't trust him to stay healthy and I worry that AA is counting on him to be.
  22. "Free agent slugger Nelson Cruz is close to a deal with the Orioles, according to people familiar with the deal. The Cruz signing, once finalized, would be the second major signing within days for Baltimore, which is obviously going for it now. The Orioles will have one of the better lineups in baseball once Cruz is in the fold. There are still a couple issues to be resolved, according to sources, though a deal looks extremely likely. The Orioles also had been talking to Kendrys Morales, another free agent hitter. Morales had other opportunities, though, including the Mariners and possibly the Pirates."
