  1. Keep this to the Kalfus foolishness thread please. Thank you.
  2. f*** Great deal for Yankees. Dammit.
  3. Not at all. I was making the same point you just did. If the Steinbrenners and Illychs of the world want to give their GM's money to overpay guys like Fielder and Tanaka that's their prerogative. As you say - they have no one else to answer to but themselves. That gives them an advantage of a sort unless they're absolutely stupid with the money (and I might suggest this is the case with Fielder). But as long as you're putting a winning team on the field and selling tickets and making TV revenue (or just blowing your life savings out of desperation to see your team win a WS) then so be it. So what if the wins are acquired inneficiently? You probably don't care all that much. You just want to keep the fanbase happy and get to take the podium with your team in late October.

  5. And DAMN but he'd look good in the rotation right now
  6. I'm starting to seriously doubt it too, even though I had presumed Lott had reliable sources on the topic. It just seems so out of character in retrospect given what's happened since. That said, they would have presumably had the financial flexibility to do it before the Marlins trade. So it's possible they are willing to dabble in the FA market at that price range VERY selectively. But let's face it - family businesses and rich old men seem more willing to put money on the line than this corporate owned entity.
  7. I'm talking about compared to projections based on the opening day roster. Not what happened. I guess it's not exactly luck maybe but you know what I mean - what were chances Johnson Morrow and the second basemen would all be so bad and what were chances of so many missed games by good players.
  8. Excellent point and a major oversight on my part in the original post. Right now I wish he was in the rotation
  9. Lackey Napoli and Ortiz all just had great years. Red Sox are a well run team. But there WAS some luck in their side last year.
  10. You're not alone. No one, and I really pretty much mean no one saw the Red Sox even making the post season, let alone winning the WS.
  11. You would think so if you listen to Gibby AA and AA too much It didn't hurt Edwin or Reyes. And the Yankees were hurt more by it than we were.
  12. For the record I'll count myself among the apologists to a degree. I think April sunk them before they had a chance and they DID get unusually unlucky with injuries. But in retrospect I don't think the team as constructed was ever going to contend with the likes of Boston and Tampa. And I wanted more improvements this year because they were available and it was the right thing to do. But instead we get a do over with 22-23/25 roster spots likely unchanged, team a year older and wiser.
  13. For all of the Jays apologists who wanted a "do over" for last season, you got it. Wilner et al say last April sunk them and the team was insanely unlucky and if you played the season over with the same roster they'd be competitive. Well here you go. Only 1 or 2 semi meaningful roster changes (new catcher for sure, and maybe but not even definitely a new 2B). Same planned rotation essentially. Same pen. Same potential all stars at 1B, SS, 3B, CF and RF. Same question marks at LF and DH. More time to gel (if they're going to) and no WBC. We'll see how it goes.
  14. New thread
  15. Zero chance Drew gets 14M That ship sailed when he turned down the QO Take 1 year 10-12M. Better luck next time.
  16. Nah. You're too close to being the second person to 10,000 posts. Rack 'em up!
  17. Orioles are no joke but they're not division-winning or even 2nd place good Again the AL East could be tight. I can't see BAL or TOR finishing better than 3rd and I can't see NYY TB or BOS finishing worse than 3rd. Obviously something's gotta give and at least one team will be surprisingly good or bad just like us and Boston last year.

  19. Stroman says he played 9 good holes of golf, then lost focus Pretend Brett Lawrie Twitter account says he should have slammed back Red Bull energy drinks after those first nine holes, and followed it up with typical Brett Lawrie hashtag yelling
  20. I'm laughing so hard I can hardly type
  21. Bumping for the folks who tuned out in the off season - video worth seeing And because I just discovered a new Brett lawrie parory Twitter account that's making me laugh
