  1. 5 good starters > 4 good ones and 1 crap You don't HAVE to have a crappy pitcher in your rotation
  2. Surely to God some team would want a package including some 2 among Redmond/Rogers/McGowan/Happ + a prospect I'd like to keep them all as depth but none have options and we can't carry them all in the bullpen long term Untenable
  3. Medical training and work enhance the powers of observation.
  4. And here we go again, we all seem to have this debate on a weekly basis
  5. Here's how I would separate the two questions that we seem to be asking ourselves 1. McGowan didn't blow the game last night because it was the bullpen who gave up most of the runs 2. Despite that, he didn't pitch that well according to the best stats, and his performance overall this season, including last night suggests he's not good enough to keep a starting job
  6. He faced 19 batters and one – ONE! – hit the ball out of the infield, a lazy fly ball to centre by Kristopher Negron that was beyond routine for Anthony Gose. Mike Wilson hit a soft popper to Ryan Goins at second for the only other ball in the air, and the other six outs that didn’t come via strikeout were all on weak ground balls, one snared niftily between the legs by a spinning Stroman. The volume of grounders is an important sign as pitching down in the zone has been a focal point because “he got away with some stuff thigh-high last year with double-A hitters,” said Bisons manager Gary Allenson.
  7. The immediate conclusion was that he was being lined up with Dustin McGowan, who is barely hanging on to his spot in the rotation. But their primary thinking was to set him up as an option for a spot start this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates (who had a scout in attendance), or versus the Philadelphia Phillies on May 5 or 6. Should McGowan indeed return to the bullpen, J.A. Happ is likely to get the first crack at the rotation slot because he has a big-league track record, the club wants to give him a chance to see how he fares, and its investment of $5.2 million in the left-hander is ample incentive to do it. Stroman is the leading candidate should they indeed have someone make a spot start to provide an extra day of rest for their five-man rotation at the front end of a 20-game slate. Concerns about adding him to the 40-man roster, starting his service-time clock and potentially burning an option by sending him back down won’t be factors in the decision.

  9. A side note, and this may be little more than due diligence on the part of the Chicago Cubs, but major-league scout Dave Littlefield was among those watching Stroman.

  11. For sure So I'm hoping that AA is doing Billy-Beane style watching and tweaking mid season. (looks like Beane doesn't have to this year LOL)
  12. Agreed. Were they unlucky on batted balls? Sure. But when there are runners on in high leverage situations, and you bring in your supposedly best relievers (Delabar, Cecil, Santos last night, Loup not used) in matchups that you've chosen to their advantage, you NEED strikeouts and ground balls. They failed to provide those last night.
  13. The Marlins could trade Jose Fernandez and Giancarlo Stanton for probably all the top 10 MLB prospects right now They're sitting on gold
  14. Game 27 Reyes (3pts) - Melky (2pts) - JaysAllMighty, G-Snarls Bautista (1pt) - Jonn, Orgfiller, Edwin (1pt) - Dylan, JFaS Navarro (4pts) - Francisco (2pts) - Chappy, Angrioter, Rasmus (2pts) - o2cui2i, Spanky99 Lawrie (1pt) - Diaz (9pts) - Getz (9pts) - Streaks Flafson going for 6 in a row!! +4 Deadpool going for 3 in a row! +1
  15. Who knows how he would have done, but I agree he deserved a month up here.
  16. Oh f***. Fernando Rodney up with tying run at the plate.
  17. Because HR BB and K all tell you a lot about what the pitcher did in one game. Way more so than runs scored/ERA.
  18. AA pretty much has to make a trade somehow
