  1. LoMo seems like a decent buy for the price, and Hart as well. I think I'd prefer Smoak over LoMo, but both have some upside.
  2. Man would I love us to nab Franklin + Saunders (I'm assuming one or both of LoMo and Hart will play in the outfield, not that they SHOULD). Saunders would nicely fill the LF hole that opens up in 2015 for us, and I still believe is ready to break out if he can get out of Safeco.
  3. I love that move for the A's. Burns has zero power, but he's a walk, hit, and stolen base machine. Appears that's he's plus defensively too in center field. It'll be interesting to see if his ability to hit for average and walk translate to AAA and the majors, but if it does he has big time lead off hitter written all over him.
  4. Hard to get too excited about Montero right now. I think Smoak would be somewhat intriguing, but not a great fit atm for us.
  5. That would be nice, but he's definitely not signing here as a platoon guy, so unless we feel he can play the outfield still ... Swapping Hart and Lind would probably be a wash in money (might even save us a little). If we can also fix 2nd base at the same time, it seems like a no-brainer. I would be sad to lose Lind, but I think it would be worth it.
  6. I could get on-board with this. Sign Hart, trade Lind to the Mariners for Franklin+
  7. IF we feel we'll be trading several relievers, I wouldn't mind seeing us take Kahnle.
  8. He was very clearly referring to the trade not being terrible at the time it was made, not in hindsight.
  9. This is too funny:
  10. I don't remember seeing that (maybe it was when I wasn't feeling well), but yes, especially focusing on the pitchers.
  11. I still think one of you should do a blog post listing the various talked about targets (FA and trade) and what each would do to our projections.
  12. It sounds like you're sufficiently biased to give your assessment Yeah, I know, a typo. I agree though, thinking he's going to be average defensively sounds like desire trumping reality.
  13. Perhaps, but he's pretty careful with his wording, and he said "We've said 'six, will you bend a little' ". Unless there's more that wasn't included, it suggests he already has broached that subject with a FA. Actually, further down in the article it suggests they may have last year, although it's not clear whether it was an internal discussion or one with the agent.
  14. Yeah, I did. Personally, I'd like one guy off the bench with some power, even if the defense is suspect. Pair him with something like Gose and Goins who provide good defense and PR speed.
  15. What makes you think he hasn't already?
  16. This is my feeling as well. I think this is one of the next big areas we need to see a study in (unless there is one I'm not aware of). I don't care so much about aging curves for lesser free agents as they probably aren't getting the long term deals where it matters (at least to a significant extent) anyhow.
  17. Apparently De Aza or Viciedo could be moved now after getting Trumbo. Viciedo could be interesting as the platoon bat with Lind. Career .900 ops vs lefties, although not the greatest sample size.
  18. I actually think this is a decent deal for both teams. Pomeranz was a big time prospect, but in general appears to be a fly ball pitcher who seems to be stalled in the thin air. He's going to light it up in Oakland imo. Anderson is an extreme ground ball pitcher, with the ability to be an upper rotation pitcher if he can stay healthy. Seems to fill a need for both teams.
  19. I'm not sure. People suggest that Tanaka doesn't have the upside of Darvish, and this guy doesn't have the upside of Tanaka... At what point do we suggest that he's the next Dice-K? With the hype right now over Japanese pitchers likely to inflate the prices, I think I'd have to be darn sure I knew he really would reach #4 starter or better.
  20. There's gotta be a good story behind that...
  21. For sure, although it'll be interesting to see if things change when we find out who the prospects are.
  22. Dunno, he just acquired a player to fill ... where exactly is he playing in the field? I'd say that fits the Jack Z profile more than Amaro.
  23. He could be forced to reach into the runner to get a throw and hurt his arm, or get his foot stomped on (etc). I don't think in general any position should be an extra injury concern except pitcher and catcher.
  24. He makes bad decisions at times, but that incredible first step and ability to hit top speed almost immediately make up for it. There's guys in the league faster, but I don't think we've seen the explosiveness Davis has since Henderson.
