  1. apologize if this was already posted. BA latest mock 1 Spencer Torkelson Arizona State1B 2 Austin Martin VanderbiltOF 3 Asa Lacy Texas A&MLHP 4 Nick Gonzales New Mexico State2B 5 Emerson Hancock GeorgiaRHP The Georgia ace is still talked about consistently with this top group of players and one decision-maker for a team in the top 10 still considers him a safe bet to go among the first five picks. Hancock checks plenty of boxes with perhaps the best command in the class, an easy plus fastball, plus changeup, an above-average slider, a good frame and a standout resume. With this pick, Hancock would become the highest-drafted pitcher to come out of the program and tie outfielder Jeff Pyburn (1980) as the highest-drafted player out of UGA, period. 6 Max Meyer MinnesotaRHP 7 Reid Detmers Louisville LHP 8 Zac Veen Spruce Creek HS, Port Orange, Fla.OF 9 Heston Kjerstad ArkansasOF 10 Garrett Mitchell UCLAOF 11 Patrick Bailey North Carolina StateC 12 Cade Cavalli OklahomaRHP 13 Mick Abel Jesuit HS, Portland, Ore.RHP 14 Garrett Crochet TennesseeLHP 15 Austin Hendrick West Allegheny HS, Imperial, Pa.OF 16 Robert Hassell Independence HS, Thompson's Station, Tenn.OF 17 Austin Wells Arizona C 18 Pete Crow-Armstrong Harvard-Westlake HS, Studio City, Calif.OF 19 Jared Kelley Refugio (Texas) HSRHP 20 Cole Wilcox GeorgiaRHP 21 Justin Foscue Mississippi State2B 22 Slade Cecconi MiamiRHP 23 Tyler Soderstrom Turlock (Calif.) 2. BA writers seem certain that teams are going to go with the players with the most data available. They have just 3 high school players in their top 15 mock (Veen at 8, Abel at 13 and Hendrick 15), and 7 in the entire first round
  3. Most underrated Jay of all time has to be Juan Guzman 21.0 bWAR in 1200 IP. I'd be okay with him being on someone's rotation...okay with him missing out and being long relief too. I just want his name mentioned. And I've done that so I'll move on now.
  4. Baseball players started receiving some of their salary back April 1st.
  5. same thing is said for penalty kicks in soccer. Everyone universally hates it...but it's f***ing ratings gold.
  6. again...longtime baseball fans opinions don't matter. You will enjoy any game, as will I and about 30% of this board (yes I believe that 70% of this board are not baseball fans). For the record runners on 2nd don't necessarily mean a game will end. It could still lead to many tied innings. And that would be exciting as anything
  7. I am okay with this too. I just don't think the majority support it. North American sports has a hate on for the tie.
  8. The Giants alone had 5 last year (1 resulting in an injury which cost me a Golf Clash teammate). They also had the most surgeries this off-season. When something is wanted by both the PA and Owners it's assuredly going to happen. I'd rather think about how to make it best rather than argue over whether it is going to ruin some fans viewing pleasure.
  9. In the play-offs yes they sell contingency ads in case games go much longer. But according to Sportsnet in regular season games they play ads at the "poker" rate once they have played all the ads scheduled
  10. Extra innings cause injuries and make zero money for anyone (and cost the team money). It's going to happen (probably the 11th inning is what they will settle on). Without minor league play taking place, there will be no unlimited extra innings. Live with it, as MLB couldn't give a s*** that baseball fans love long games. You will watch regardless and much like every change ever...people will get used to it and love it.
  11. I still think the runner at 2nd is the dumb idea...starting the innings with baserunners is absolutely necessary
  12. It's the 14 day quarantine. They aren't going to allow Jays players to cross the border and then come back here without quarantine. Professional athletes cannot be trusted to stay in their hotels.
  13. Shapiro met with Tory and Ford about this exact same subject and timeline. The story is 100% true that this is what MLB is shooting for. With Toronto (and the 14 day quarantine) and NYC teams being the ones that need provisional plans. Plouffe jumped the gun before all the approvals that is all. I think the July 1 start happens. I will unlock the thread for you to pre-apologize to King
  14. Glory said the BJMB equivalent to Beetlejuice. Mention it and he will come
  15. Santa Clara County executive officer Dr. Jeffrey Smith told that county’s Board of Supervisors this week that he did not expect there would be “any sports games until at least Thanksgiving, and we’d be lucky to have them by Thanksgiving”, via the @latimes
  16. so you are now bringing upwards of 5k of people into Scottsdale. Re-opening their hotels, making staff return to work. No way should the city or state be okay with this. I get it MLB knows it's in trouble (the NBA could easily finish their season in 1 city with multiple courts, with a whole lot less people, but you don't see them coming up with some stupid idea), but they have to just wait it out.
  17. According to Kate Upton and Justin Verlander MLB players were told yesterday that they will start to receive their weekly paycheques. JV is donating his to a different charity each week, which they will announce on Kate's instagram.
  18. Picks have been traded. I oppose
  19. Choo just gave $1000 to each of the Rangers 200 or so minor league players. He also gave $152k to South Korean efforts
  20. All the Dominican players appear to be back home. So he's getting a healthy helping of Grandma's cooking.
  21. Baseball had almost caught football too for participation rates, but Football's participation success comes down to willingness of players to do non contact ball up until age 13, and the decline is steady rather than some spikes. Basketball is king in the U.S. now, but not baseball's biggest competitor for athletes. It's really soccer which would benefit from a baseball decline.
  22. We would lose the DDL thread if we delete him. While it was funny when I did it to the BBDL, we can't afford to have it happen to a real thread
  23. I just don't think neutral site games will help the game...unless they are the only game on TV.
  24. Most of the 27 did say that they just thought the 5 year rule shouldn't be waived and that is why they voted against.
