  1. “He’s like a new toy, really” Gibbons says. “He’s a young arm, but you can’t get carried away.” says the manager that just got beat over 8 innings by a 22 year old. Limiting innings is not a proven science at all but assuming the Jays subscribe to percentage increases each season...what does this mean for Stroman next year? At least make sure he's getting to your prescribed limit!!!

Just imagine Manziel throwing to Josh Gordon...oh wait. People thought Gordon partying with Manziel would get him suspended but it turns out he failed that test a couple months ago. Kicked out of the league with an opportunity to re-apply next year. Poor Cleveland fans if true
  3. last time I looked Rogers Centre had a much higher HR park factor than Coors.
  4. except for the fact that there are 10 not yet arbitration eligible pitchers in the top 30 pitchers so far this season (including one Jay). I think the correct response is that in most cases (not all) you have to see some results in the minors and recognize what stats carry forward and which it takes a serious change to be successful. Good orgs are the ones where their struggling prospects (or all prospects) actually get better results as they move up levels.
  5. meh, he's had HR problems. If he was walking everyone than we should be talking DFA. He's not going to continue giving up an HR every 3rd time he appears. If they did DFA him it wouldn't bother me that much but I disagree the options are that much better out there. It's a bullpen guy, likely he comes in and puts up scoreless outings in his next 5 or 6 appearances.
  6. Shark's price isn't coming down at this point.
  7. I don't think it's the majority still...I think that there is a certain population of Jays fans who will always associate Sanchez with Synder. There were very few that loved both equally. So those that liked Syndergaard, tend to look for the negatives in Sanchez (and there are some large concerns with Sanchez). If Florida was willing to take Sanchez instead...well it's possible we went the wrong direction, but that is something we'll never know if it was the case. I still like Sanchez over any minor league pitcher other than Stroman (Will hold off anointing Norris yet) , he's got time to get it together. He's become a groundball machine which is a huge positive, and seldom do you hear about him giving up solid contact. Right now the absolute best comp I can come up with for Sanchez is Wily Peralta (who is improving with the walks every year)
  8. eventually it would be nice to get rid of the fringe guys though and use minor league starters with options as your bullpen and starter insurance like so many orgs do.
  9. I am being facetious. It's a stat I love to throw out when a position player gets hurt and the "it's the end of the world" types get freaked out. I do love to point out negatives about Lawrie to get those that suck his nutsack rattled though.
  10. it's one outing...but he appears to be a guy who thinks way too much out there. Facing his 8th batter of the game, he's had 6 weak groundouts and 1 K. He starts the number 8 hitter 2 and 0 and he becomes visibly upset, walks off the mound. Comes back delivers a strike and then gets another weak groundout. He's still obviously upset when facing the number 9 hitter and walks him on 5 pitches. Mookie Betts gets a ground ball single and Sanchez looks absolutely lost. He gave up one legit hit (a 3-1 double to the gap) but he didn't get anything for swinging strikes (a few foul balls but not even one swing and miss. His strikeouts were looking). He faced 14 batters and he started 12 of them 1-0. My count was 27 balls and 23 strikes (I'd say that 16 of the balls were not even close). I really think it's fixable for him as it's probably release point and mental issues...mechanically he looks sound. But then again I'm not great at figuring out pitching mechanics. Will be interesting to look at the k-swinging rates once he hits AAA and we can see them tracked.
  11. yeah I flipped the pw around. Now it's digits first
  12. I'm very intrigued to see this 3rd inning...cause in the first 2 innings he started every batter (but one) with a ball to the same spot (up and in on righties, up and away on lefties) but came back with nice fastballs (no audio for the game so no velocity to report) and all the outs were extremely weak contact with 5 GB outs to go with the 1 K.
  13. replay of the game is up. Figure this is as good a time as any to give a personal review of Sanchez. First time I've seen him since the piggyback days...not that this outing will be any different than those days
  14. listening to some XM baseball show today and there was talk about Utley to the Marlins today and the package centred around Nicolino. Don't think Utley waives his no trade for Toronto or Miami but individual trade value of the "extra parts" of that deal is just another value loss.
  15. might add that the Jays are now 3-0 without Lawrie in the lineup...and now over the past three years it's 48-47 without Lawrie 117-146 with Lawrie #clubhousecancer
  16. Jays doing double duty here...bringing the true Phils out and bringing a Cliff Lee or Chase Utley trade into play, and keeping themselves in the weakest division in baseball.
  17. angry Johnny Football is slipping in the draft
  18. it was a 34 pitch inning that he ended with a strikeout
  19. Clinton overcame an 8 run lead on the weekend too...with 5 in the 9th. Kyle and Corey's little brother drove in the tying run in both
  20. Rays fans truly suck...front row seats to watch the best built team in baseball and you don't pay attention http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v32658725/baltb-unaware-fan-nearly-gets-hit-by-foul-ball
  21. Interesting scenario for him now. Does he take his sliding draft slot money...or try again next draft?
  22. Hitler wasn't a stat nerd...keep your comps correct please. making generalizations about half the board. I've met a big chunk of these people and we have talked about baseball, politics, other sports, women, men...most of these guys could have intellectual conversations about any subject. You don't like stats...we get it! It's also a pretty one sided discussion on your part. A guy like Moogy posts anti-stat stuff, but he turns around and offers opinions about a players swing. Do you? Do you offer anything?
