  1. i was kind of hoping for a Handsome Jake vs. Gose type of wager tonight. Not in a handsomeness contest of course...as that's no contest
  2. I don't know exactly how to gather this data but I have a very good memory. Some that I can think of off hand. Shelby Miller (A little lower ERA) Josh Johnson...again he slowed down in the second half of his rookie year so he was probably a little better Jae Seo (I know this is the kind of guy you are probably looking for). I seem to remember him being a rookie sensation. Tommy Hanson Vance Worley Gerritt Cole Brian Lawrence Noah Lowry Anyone remember Zach Duke's call up stats...an insane 80 or so innings. I'm not looking up anyone's actual peripherals here...just players I remember having solid starts to their major league careers.
  3. A lot can happen in a short time. it doesn't take much for teams like KC, Cleveland, White Sox, Rays or Reds to completely give up (many believe they should already). A guy like Shields or Cueto won't make it through to the Jays but several will make it through waivers completely. Alexei Ramirez is one that sticks out for me, Mat Latos injury concerns might push him through waivers. Billy Butler, Homer Bailey, Votto, Ludwick are all getting through waivers likely. Not players the Jays would look at likely but still loads of players are getting through. Most teams will claim no one...and seldom does any one team claim more than 1 player. We are talking about 100's of players being put on waivers.
  4. Is Rasmus enough of an upgrade on their 6th OF to make it worth it for Oakland? Seriously though currently their 7th OF is out-performing Rasmus
  5. I'm going to suggest a trade deadline thread for deadline rumours (not involving the Jays...which would be this thread) and one for actual trades. I think that is fair.
  6. Actually that is probably the most intelligent thing Amaro has ever done.
  7. When The Score bought these guys I think the plan was to make them on air personalities (they did appear a few times on TV) Sportsnet buying the Score but not the online content was likely the beginning of the end for these guys making real money...but the initial deal had to be somewhat lucrative.
  8. that's probably why he was so sad. He wants to eat twinkies...but he'll lose his hipster card if he does.
  9. I know it's twitter and sometimes it's tough to say everything you want...but you should have linked to the Breaking Blue article (and Nikolai's twitter). It at least could educate and get some extra traffic.
  10. Maybe Boxy was the original bully, as we know all West Mexicans are fatties.
  11. Sorry I thought this was well known. The Jays didn't try him as a reliever because they are like casual fans and if a pitcher is horrible for a month and a half (unless he is one of their scouting favourites...Sanchez, Romero) they dump him. They really do use SSS's like this.
  12. Not that I'd know the guy to look at him. I know the stories about them having dealers in the dressing room and just outside the stadium. I was making a joke about the lack of an image appearing (at least for me...all I see is image hosted by tripod) and then a further joke about Pete Rose saying that Joe Dimagio had a huge cock
  13. I'm looking for waiver upgrades for next season for Hellickson. Anyone willing? I'd like to get all my waivers in the first 2 rounds this year.
  14. The Tripod? It's all Joe Dimagio's fault?
  15. Admitting to cocaine on the field is why he's not in. Doesn't matter what country he played in. Voters have their usual reasons why they can not vote him in (a lot of his value was built from 81 to 88...then it tailed off. He never had a big moment or award) but deep down most that keep him out probably feel like he should have been suspended like the others during the Pittsburgh cocaine trails.
  16. this is still a guy who from the start of the season had a 20/63 BB/K ratio (over 73 IP) this year between double AA and AAA (with a 2.81 ERA), He had that game against Toledo where he walked 1 and struck out 10 over 7 and then after that the wheels fell off (20BB/22K over the next 35 and a third). You can look at this two ways either his true talent came through in the past month and a bit...or the real healthy Deck at the start of the season gives you hope that he's capable of being a back end starter with good games here and there. Either way he's admittedly not your typical convert to a reliever type (doesn't throw smoke, isn't a lefty) but as I said when they DFA'd him...why not give him a try there.
  17. If only someone had suggested that here.
  18. Not usually the wording for a guy who is on his second below replacement level season and is owed $83.5M over the next 4 years. If the Red Sox had a DH spot to use him at he'd at least fit in there...but they shouldn't have that. He's the DH equivalent of Matt Joyce...but Joyce still can play LF. At least Kemp's bad defense wouldn't be as big a deal in a LF where you don't actually need range. So he might actually move up to a 0.5 win player.
  19. a couple guys already covered this but generally power stats are among the easiest to develop if the raw power is there. Nay is very well built and displays loads of power in BP, Baseball America still graded him a 70 raw power coming into the season. He doesn't strike out a ton....so if even part of that raw power develops at all everything in his stat lines should rocket up. Last season they removed his waggle and changed his stride. Haven't heard what they are working on this year but chances are, seeing as it's the Jays, they are probably trying to change his up-the-middle approach and make the power come around. Barreto gets that "not a SS long-term" tag thrown on him and that brings him down in most rankings. Not saying he'll be bad where he ends up but as I've mentioned before in the minors once a tag has been thrown on a player it usually takes a solid run in AAA to remove it. Nay with power developing plays in RF or 3B...without the power developing it's utility guy. Barreto and his maximum 10 HR, with solid doubles power likely just plays at 2B if he doesn't stick at SS. In the end their ceilings are Nay - Middle of the order 3B or RF. Barreto - Top of the order 2B or SS. Floors are constant disappointment.
  20. He also deserves to get into the Raping Dineke's sister HOF. Rose is ineligible after betting on a rape...although he swears it wasn't his rape
  21. Looks like one of the others made a decision. Thanks for bringing this one to our attention.
  22. Ha...stupid Red Sox fan in Tampa. Learn to frame better!
  23. Past two season for the Rays... July 35-9...all other months 106-115
  24. And Spanky slowly is becoming a Rays convert. We'll get you a jersey with beer stains built in...just to save you the time
