  1. Of course if they acquired both in the off season they probably would have DFA'd both early in the season.
  2. He's struggled this year against lefties for an inexplicable reasons. Last year 121 wRC+ .330/.386/.556 in the minors vs. LHP. The guy can hit lefties.
  3. Now if they'd just listen to me immediately, instead of waiting...Pearce and Barnes were my cheap off-season platoon targets. Jays tried for Pearce eventually and then he refuses them and becomes a monster. Now they are looking at Barnes. I expect him to take off right after the Jays don't acquire him.
  4. Did you know that the ¿ was originally created to show sarcasm but it never caught on. I don't believe that is actually a true story but a friend told me that today and I'm going with it. Bring the ¿ back!
  5. He can't really change much but doesn't hurt to drop my name and say that I recommend he be a Jay. Is he slumming or are you living the life pre-partner?
  6. I still really like Barnes. He inexplicably isn't hitting lefties this year (but doing much better against righties). He's been moved to the bench in Colorado and they have a similar player in Stubbs, he'll be available for a low level guy. A Barnes/Gose platoon would be ugly at the plate but at least they would be acceptable in pure platoon.
  7. I was actually looking for a kids suit store and came up with that image.
  8. We can all wear our new suits to the wake.
  9. Stro in his new suit http://www.loveluxeblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/shopping-for-page-boy-suit.jpg
  10. I always found it best to set your playoff rotation in July, early birds...
  11. Because you lock him up while he's a league average bat and injured. Unfortunately he's also got a top 5 3B mind. He turns down all team friendly deals at his current level of pay IMO. However that was a year ago. Now he's arbitration ready and we all know that his defense will barely change that value in those hearings. So he's not going to jump up that much. Just play it year by year or lock him up 2 or 3 now if you don't want to bother meeting with him other than his disciplinary meetings.
  12. The word I had was that Pompey was in all and any discussions, Sanchez was off limits 100%...then recently was mentioned as might be available. Stroman has been in discussions and recently said to be untouchable.
  13. This is a front office that I believe has a "What have you done for me lately" player assessment style. They don't want to include Sanchez in any deals, cannot include Stroman, Norris is likely off limits. So Hutch might be an asset that might not help that much this year that is offered up.
  14. 1 or 2. However it would not surprise me at all if they started shopping Hutch around. Maybe the Rockies who have Anderson and Stubbs (or Barnes) that should be of interest to the Jays. This doesn't really apply to a number 5 but still a major league piece as the centerpiece.
  15. No one that went to Duke has any issues between the ears.
  16. When I come home from work I don't have to look at the score to know if the Jays won...I just have to look at the number of reported posts. I missed the Sanchez outing but have watched 5 games in the minors this year. Did anyone expect a guy who's had huge control problems, but still remained a top 50 prospect, to not be absolutely filthy? For Sanchez, just like his Dirty Sanchez brother Danny in Cleveland, it's going to be about pitch counts. I did some data on his count in the first and how the game went. When he has his stuff early and keeps it low in the first he's been good for the game. When he has a high count in the first (even when he gives up no runs) he's struggled. Might be part of why they want him as a reliever, just a confidence boost for him.
  17. I honestly believe that the injuries have bought AA at least one more year. Unless the new office chairs he requires become too costly.
  18. Are the Jays a better team with Price and Zobrist if they don't have Hutch, Stroman and Lawrie? That is the "Price" or in around there. Price and Zobrist aren't an option. Price or Zobrist will still cost huge. Lee and Utley also have to want to come here...either one of them can block a trade to Toronto.
  19. meh...it's really 2 1/3 years for $62M as no one is going to buy out that last year unless his arm has fallen off. He's got a shot of earning that contract it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't clear waivers. Amaro is and always has been an idiot when adding those buyouts, vesting options and their no trade clauses (No one is allowed to block San Diego or division rivals). Howard is a $10M buyout, Hamels $6M and Burnett $15M mutual option or $7.5M player option. When Lee signed his no trade they extended the same deal to Utley, Howard and Hamels. Then there are the crazy clauses like if Utley doesn't go on the DL, for a knee injury, this year he gets $5M.
  20. I know your department head for Social Sciences very well. I have pics that you could use against if you ever get them as a teacher.
  21. Regardless of your perception of the team (and mine and many here) AA has to give the perception of going for it. We know what a hot streak can do for the standings this year. All year I've said that the best move AA could make is just hope and pray to the Souvlaki gods, but now making a deal, any deal, regardless of the actual value of the deal and having it coincide with a small winning streak, will have the casual fans pumped about baseball once again. If the winning streak doesn't come...oh well "we all saw what the team could do when healthy back in May...this is a playoff team".
  22. That blog that posted the Rios pics is amazing...just tonnes of ball players with random skanks.
  23. Isn't that typical...as soon as Moogy starts losing BTS starts posting again!
  24. We won't mention this ever again. Many pitchers alone outscored my entire team. Did you enter the Freeroll...I think your score would have got you $2.
  25. He's also striking out more, still not hitting for much power and hasn't drawn a walk in 24 days. His grip might be working on his confidence but he's really just riding two nice 4 hit games (one in Colorado) to some okay July numbers. Take away those two games and you have .241 OBP for the month of July. When he's struggled as bad as he has over the year, I don't blame him for making the change and who knows it might work but a grip change seems like an odd reason to do a 180 on a player...especially when 80% of your argument was about his injuries.
