To think about what the Cubbies did (recently not the entire rebuild which I've stated before i think is about as good a rebuild as I've ever seen). Signed pitching Lackey. Jays don't really need to. Signed 3 OF's, with a focus on defense (Heyward which was a big overpay) and flexibility (Zorilla being the most flexible guy, and Fowler being able to play any of the OF positions). - There are no Heyward's ... which is probably a good thing but flexibility should be the Jays focus. Traded an overpaid Backup for a Reliever and free up some cash. Not the same thing but trading for relievers should happen. Essentially everyone thought that the Cubs were going to use all that prospect equity and fill every hole. They were patient and didn't trade Baez, Soler or Almora like most expected and then traded the really young prospects to fill their only major need at the deadline. Patience is the key here. No need to build the pen in completely in the off season and don't trade off the prospects until you know what you have/need.
