Currently this area is the Oracle Arena and O Co plus about 20,000 parking spots. Oakland has so little parkland. The Oracle is being repurposed as a concert venue...the rest is parkland a tech university and residential/shopping. The repurposing of O Co (which will be a bookable park for cultural festivals, charitable softball games and meant to inspire future baseball generations) will be paid for by the developers. In Toronto it would be a massive waste of space...in Oakland it would probably remain as rubble after destroyed. I don't think it will age well and if the neighbourhood works, it will likely become housing anyway.
