  1. Yes, I am. If you're in Canada, you have to scroll to the bottom of their list and say you're not in the United States. If you are in the US than you need to be a Fox customer. Not true! Only if you're in the US.
  2. Yeah I was agreeing with your post and then making a point to Mikeleelop. Every team obviously can't keep spending until they have a playoff team because there are only eight/ten playoff spots.

  6. It makes sense. If you don't have the talent necessary to hit the ball that far you're not going to ever do it. Few guys come close to Stanton's power. It's like how Mark Buehrle isn't going to mix in a 93 mph fastball every now and then. His arm isn't capable of doing that. Stanton really is a special talent. Hopefully he wins advances at least to the third round so we can see him hit some bombs. Unattributable too. The way the general media/public thinks of run prevention is annoying. The pitcher can only control so much!
  7. Orioles are on pace for 89.6 by the way. So I'd dispute 'almost certainly' even if the Orioles may not be as good as they've been. We should aim for 90 wins.
  8. I'm picking him in the Home Run Contest game. Seems like a decent dark horse.
  9. Even if the Rays did (and I don't think they do), you wouldn't have enough of sample to care. This statement from Bautista is a dead-end. Hard to do much with it. The Front Office knows the turf is a problem though and thankfully it seems like they're committing to doing something about it. This seems like standard frustration from Bautista. It really looked like 2014 was the year but injuries could derail it just as they did to 2012 and 2013.
  10. You just know that if we retain either of them it'll be for an overpay. Why not look at the other free agent options or make a trade. I'm annoyed by the "we'll be stuck with Pillar and Gose if these guys leave" mentality. This FO clearly doesn't believe in those guys enough to let them start 2015 as a regular. New guys will be brought in and they're a good chance they'll be as good or better than Melky/Colby.
  11. Some were but I always thought that was overblown. BJ Upton had a much better track record going into FA. At the start of the season I could see 4/56. Now that's not probably going to happen.
  12. Colby would have had to repeat last year but with more sustainable peripherals to get BJ Upton money. And that was always a long-shot. I think Colby would get 3/30 on the open market and Melky 3/27. If they opted for one-year deals, probably 1/11 each. They're not great players, guys.
  13. I was actually thinking this weekend that there's a real scenario Colby comes back on a one- or two-year deal. Nobody's giving him four years and $60M+ as it stands currently. He just doesn't look like an impact player. You can bring up his 2013 WAR all you want but there are many indicators that's not actually who he is. He's a league-average hitter and league-average defender whose tantalizing power leaves him prone to being overrated. Melky is similar. When you're a bad defense, mediocre power corner bat, it's hard to rack up value. Melky's hitting about as well as you can expect from him this year yet isn't more than an average regular. A QO would significantly hamper his multi-year market.
  14. That's good, yeah. May make the ERA even more fascinating. One of the best pitchers in the AL sports an ERA over 6 against a team in 17 start. Crazy.
  15. We actually seem to absolutely own a larger number of good pitchers than get owned by them. Colby Lewis 7.34 ERA, 41.2 IP Josh Beckett 6.28 ERA, 96 IP AJ Burnett 5.94 ERA, 66.2 IP Gavin Floyd 5.88 ERA, 49 IP Bronson Arroyo 5.77 ERA, 68.2 IP John Lackey 5.43 ERA, 121 IP Erik Bedard 5.30 ERA, 73 IP Dan Haren 4.99 ERA, 83 IP Felix Hernandez 4.95 ERA, 72.2 IP Johan Santana 4.84 ERA, 48.1 IP Cliff Lee 4.80 ERA, 75 IP Other great pitchers with ERAs over 4: Zack Greinke, Justin Verlander, CJ Wilson, Doug Fister.
  16. CC Sabathia has been excellent vs. us. 15-4, 3.13 ERA in 20 starts. Career ERA versus every team is 3.63. Edit: Also, Clay Buchholz 10-4, 2.71 ERA (19 starts) Bruce Chen 4-3 2.97 ERA (9 starts) Tim Hudson 11-4 3.10 ERA (17 starts) Jered Weaver 9-2 3.39 ERA (12 starts)
  17. This way he doesn't have to pitch in the all-star game! And gets almost a week off. Very smart move by him.
  18. I didn't realize it was that league you acquired Donaldson in. Good get. It's not going to matter though lol, you guys are cooked.
  19. Good post FTD. I tend to do subtle buy-low/sell-high trades. If I have a player who in my opinion is over-performing enough for other teams to consider him to be in a new class of players but not enough for him to be having a clear "breakout," then I'll sometimes make him available and make it seem like I'm selling for roster reasons and not because he's a "sell-high" candidate. Or if another team has a somewhat expendable (for roster or timeline reasons) player who is under-performing but not enough for the other owner to worry he's "selling low" then I'll inquire and make a legitimate offer, ensuring that it doesn't seem like I'm "buying low." In general I don't really believe in the extreme low/high structure because any player can go in any direction. Instead of selling low on a player, you may be smartly salvaging whatever value you can get. Or instead of buying high, you could be smartly betting on an even more extreme breakout. I.e., Silvergun's sale of Josh Donaldson last year to therealmin. He probably thought it was clever to cash in on a scrub like Donaldson. But instead, Donaldson rose even higher and is now a premium piece.
  20. Craig wasn't overrated prior to last year because before then he actually did him for decent power. He was a versatile good average, good power hitter in a very good lineup. Then last year his HR/FB went way down, and this year it's still down and his FB% has also cratered. He's going to have to do something different to get the power back, this isn't a traditional bad luck buy-low situation.
  21. The rumours are based off pure speculation from Ken Rosenthal. There's no actual evidence that it's going to happen. I didn't realize Craig was having quite so bad a year. When BTS mentioned Butler I thought it was a stretch, but it doesn't appear to be. They're very similar players in age, profile and batted ball distribution. I like buying low but I just don't see it with Craig.
  22. Don't you watch just about every Jays game though? Lots of people follow a team very closely, nothing sad about it lol
