  1. More money for the player, but likely a similar number for the overall player + post amount. In the old system, a team would decide "We believe this player is worth $80M over 6 years." They would then calculate that $50M was required to sign the player after acquiring the rights. Their post would then be $30M. In this system, the same team coming to the same conclusion will post $20M and then offer the player $60M over 6 years. It's not really going to save MLB much money.
  2. Btw, the phrase is actually "all for naught."
  3. Their owner has flip-flopped about a dozen times in the past week, probably just to get attention. I won't believe Tanaka is being posted until he's posted.
  4. The Cell was the #1 park last year for right-handed home runs, so this is good from a Davidson fantasy angle. Prety fair trade overall. Reed has mediocre results in the Majors so far, but the peripherals are great and he's very cheap/controllable.
  5. No stops outside of Ontario? Weird and disappointing... if you're not actually touring the country then replace it with a 'JaysFest' event at the RC, which is what other teams do. People living in these cities don't have much trouble getting to the occasional game.
  6. On the old board I used to get up to 100 a day in some weeks. That was back when post count mattered and you were encouraged to spam your count up. Now I'm busier (i.e., not in HS like you guys) and also try to only post actual thoughts.
  7. Yah that's only 37 per day. NOT AT ALL FREQUENT. I wonder who is the fourth-youngest.
  8. No, by that logic you're #615! Woot! So our three youngest posters have contributed 14.0% of all posts lol. Incredible.
  9. Goodness I thought GD was in Grade 12, as old as Fatcow. He knows way more about baseball than I did when I was 14. Which was quite a bit... I ran a class fantasy baseball pool in Grade 9 lol. I had to write a 20-page work report for this term (I'm on co-op), but the formatting was crazy generous: Double-spaced, four cm margins and eight pages of fluff (title page, letter to my coordinator, table of contents, list of figures, summary, introduction, references and an appendix). Hammered it out in one weekend.
  10. I do. They're supposed to stand in for em dashes, which aren't located directly on keyboards. Nothing wrong with it.
  11. And the team was very unlikable last year... these guys aren't lovable losers. I got pretty sick of watching their act by September. As long as the roster as a whole improves and the farm stays relatively intact (keep Stroman), I don't care what AA does.
  12. Congrats to Angrioter and Ziggyy108 for picking Big Pelf-Twins correctly. FAP Contest standings are really solidifying... check my latest post and the doc!
  13. Or that's what the Cubs want you to think! Maybe if nobody is willing to overpay by January they'll lower the price.
  14. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/1911-Mets-sign-Colon That thread not good enough?
  15. Only trust real journalists. Every time an unconventional source floats a rumour I type something to this effect. This isn't happening.
  16. It doesn't matter how good/bad the players in each category are. This study looked at the change in the players' performance by year. Why would players who have been in the Majors for four years by age 26 improve/worsen more than players who have been in the Majors for only two years by 26? With that said, I am skeptical of the significance of this data.
  17. Exceptional players don't improve? I'm not sure I see what you mean.
  18. I'd guess one of Astros, Twins, Rays, Pirates, Angels, Mets. I very much doubt AA is in on Floyd. He's said to be shying away from risk and while Floyd will come cheap, he'll still get a Major League deal (and thus a roster spot).
  19. We were talking about this five posts ago lol.
  20. May 7th, yes, so he's iffy to be back for the start of the season. He should come real cheap. I assume there would be a team option if we signed him.
  21. Gavin Floyd close to signing with the Mystery Team, per Baltimore Sun. Let's hope it's us. He would be an interesting depth option.
  22. No way he'd accept that. At this rate his arb years will be 16-24-29 or something. He's the best player in history through two years. Pujols and Cano aren't comparable. I would offer him 17/438: 5, 15, 20, 25, 25, 25, 25, 28, 28, 28, 30, 30, 30, 32, 32, 30, 30. Make him an Angel for life. There are profound franchise benefits for having an inner-circle guy play his whole career on your team.
  23. Trout will get much more than that IMO. He'll be entering his age-26 season when he becomes a free agent. Teams will be willing to pay both premium AAV and years. Maybe 14/364.
  24. Very interesting. Too bad we can't expect Mike Trout to get any better
  25. Very nice kcjaysfan! I try to keep my thanks given in line with my thanks received.
