  1. Maybe if they throw in Matt Moore too? I could get behind that.
  2. And we're full at 1B/DH (esp. since Cooper bats left like Lind, no platoon here). Indians makes a lot of sense.
  3. People aren't necessarily saying "keep Edwin at all costs, he's untouchable." They're saying "don't trade Edwin for Price." Big difference.
  4. Apparently the Mariners literally outbid themselves for Cano. Via Evan Grant of Dallas Morning News (and Michael Young MVP fame): "By mid-day Friday, Seattle had heard that some team bid nine years and $225 million for Robinson Cano, so the Mariners upped their bid to $240 million and 10 years before apparently realizing the initial bid had come from themselves, too." http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/texas-rangers/headlines/20131206-grant-with-all-of-mlb-going-crazy-on-friday-texas-rangers-took-care-of-mundane-chore-remain-lurking.ece
  5. But isn't a win a win? When you take the positional adjustment into account, they're very close. ---- I'd rather keep EE and trade the farm for pitching. This swap would sap future contract value while not making the team any better off in 2014.
  6. Choo is one of twenty players ALL TIME in the 20-20-.420 club. That type of overall package cannot be overrated.
  7. Exactly. The level of reverence for Halladay in Toronto is off-the-charts. And while he wasn't the classic clubhouse guy journalists love, they respected him as much as we did.
  8. Yep. Threw more innings/seasons and retired with nearly identical ERA- and FIP- numbers to Halladay. Brown would definitely look better if you took out 2004 and 2005 when he stuck around and tanked his ratios (ERA would be 3.16, not 3.28). This is more of a commentary on Brown though -- I believe both should be in (so comparison isn't a knock on Halladay).
  9. I bet Halladay gets into the Hall (and I think he should), but there is a case against him. Kevin Brown was just as good/better but in 2011 didn't even get the 5% needed to stay on the ballot. It seems like the way he carried himself elevates what people think of him as a player, rightly or wrongly.
  10. B-Ref's Hall of Fame stats (HOF Monitor, Black Ink, etc.) think he's in too. He was a definitive ace for a 10 year period and did the extra ace stuff (67 career CG) that the old-school voters will like. I definitively think he's in and this one-day gesture cements that will go in as a Blue Jay.
  11. Just checked, apparently 'roster' was the word Davidi used, not 'player'. So this would make sense.
  12. I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps working out and tries to come back in two years.
  13. Dunno if Halladay is 'player' related, but maybe it has something to do with him?
  14. I miss Doc. So sad.
  15. Or maybe they're announcing the details of this year's Winter Caravan?
  16. Is a first base coach not a coach?! Seems to be either front office restructuring or the ST deal w/ Astros.
  17. I bet they're announcing the Spring Training deal with the Astros in Palm Beach Gardens.
  18. There are a lot of players left unsigned, in effect lots of wins up for grabs. Your projection of 108 losses banks on the Astros acquiring a disproportionately small amount of those wins. You're saying such since they're likely to use 2014 as another rebuilding year. While that may be true, it would be misleading for projection systems to already have that baked into their sauce. If you dole out the up for grabs wins among all teams evenly, you'd probably get close to Steamer's 74.
  19. Ah I see what you mean. They're independent of what the umpire calls. That data is even more useful for what I'm doing! Thanks.
  20. That's what I need (o-looking is ball, z-looking is called strike)! If it's not too much of a hassle, could you send them to me or post them?
