Boxy is dumn
The Jays haven't had a good bench in years, mainly symptomatic of AA's god awful roster construction and continued belief in Ryan Goins. Specifically, we've lacked a quality backup INF - Barney performed admirably (surprisingly good out of the pen, too), but realistically, we could do better.
In comes Trevor Plouffe. He was outrighted today by the Twins after an injury plagued 2016 in which he cost them half a win, posting a 91 wRC+ with poor defense. However, he has a history of being pretty decent, and might fit our roster pretty nicely.
Why He Is Probably s***
Didn't experience any poor batted ball luck last year (BABIP, HR/FB stayed similar)
Walk rate fell 2%
Coming off a pretty bad oblique injury
Only projected for league average bat
Why He Might Not Be Totally s***
Has a history of being a positive/not awful defensive contributor at positions we need
5.0 UZR/150 at 1B
-4.6 UZR/150 at 3B
