The_DH Verified Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Horwitz with that straight away centerfield power. wow I think he has to spend the winter with a coach learning to properly play 2b
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 weren't they grooming Horwitz for 2nd? Since the trade deadline he's played 2B just 4 times, with the last time being 8/18. With Wagner's emergence and the depth they have there, it's possible they are fine with him at 1B/DH now. He can still play 2B occasionally so it adds to his versatility. The question if he is going to more in the 1B/DH role is whether the power can materialize.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Defensible to call it an error. Then throw beat him by a step and a half and pulled Olson off the bag. Sure it wasn't routine, but it was far from a sure single. Yeah I don't know, I've seen far more routine than that called hits. All doesn't matter now cause karma is a bitch, the streak is over.

If they add a true 3b and keep Vlad at 1st, he'll probably promarily DH and get the occasional start at 1st. If they go another way, and Vlad plays 3rd, he's probably the primary 1b. I don't think the Jays want him playing 2b much

I think he can learn, he seems smart. I don't think it's a brain thing with him, it's a physical tools thing. His arm and footspeed are both 5th percentile. That's not a great place to start building a 2b from. He started out well, but I suspect it became clear internallly as he went along that the more time he spends there, it was only going to go one direction defensively. I think there was a point where was +4 OAA and then plummeted to +1 over the course of a week. Yes, small sample overall on his defense at 2b, so variability could be high one way or the other, I think they decided to pull the plug while they were ahead, knowing they can stick him there in a pinch.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Holy s***, the Braves starter streak is alive. They really massaged the s*** out of that.

I know he's not good enough right now at 2b for a .500+ team, but I still think he could find his way. Enough that he could be okay at 2b, he'll never be a Robbie Alomar type. Maybe Tommy Herr?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Watching Daulton Varsho AB’s actively depress me.

metafour Verified Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Watching Daulton Varsho AB’s actively depress me. He legit has like a 120 wRC+ since the All-Star break. Maybe try watching with your eyes open.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 He legit has like a 120 wRC+ since the All-Star break. Maybe try watching with your eyes open. He has been much better. But he has some of the worst AB’s I have seen in my life. And we were subjected to Kevin Pillar and JP Arencibia.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Watching Daulton Varsho AB’s actively depress me. Wagner should be in that slot
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 At what point are we confident that Horwitz and Will Wagner are legit with the bat? How many at bats?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Wagner should be in that slot I'm a Horwitz guy for the 2 hole myself. He at least knows how to walk if he has to.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Scouting report on Frias....he throws hard! In the general direction of the plate.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 I know it’s early but I think the Astros royally f***ed not giving Will Wagner a chance.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Scouting report on Frias....he throws hard! In the general direction of the plate. Dudes already given up more hits than Bowden Francis did in August.
Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Frias with an almost 10 ERA. Jays scouts scraping the bottom.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 I know it’s early but I think the Astros royally f***ed not giving Will Wagner a chance. Possibly, Loperfido, Wagner and Zach Dezenzo were all pushing for promotions, Loperfido was called up in May then Dezenzo in August, neither hit much
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 He looks so legit to me, numbers aside because I haven't checked....his AB's vs lefties are impressive There's a lot to like for sure. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/will-wagner-695238?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb But prior to tonight his #s vs lefties are pretty soft overall.

Varsho looks like a 4 WAR centre fielder this year. So tired of your moronic takes.

I was annoyed when he was LF and they were getting 0 Offense from the OF. I am thrilled he’s playing CF now. Should still be in the bottom third of the lineup. He’s absolutely dog s*** as a hitter but he will hit some Homeruns and play incredible defense.
