WryNGinger Verified Member Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 (edited) I would like to have a stickied thread with an up to date listing of who got banned, how long the ban is for, and why they got banned. I don't mean a bunch of legalize or too much detail. Just who pushed their luck or was an obvious troll account etc. Some snippets of content would be appreciated so others could watch for new accounts exhibiting similar behavior. I am glad we are seeing some of the "always a troll" accounts get the red highlight quickly. Keeyp up the yeoman work mods! Thank you! Edited April 7, 2024 by WryNGinger

Saves posters from asking why so and so was banned if they missed what happened. Also, sets a precedent for future banning and others could see what could lead to a ban and for how long.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted April 8, 2024 Author Posted April 8, 2024 Yeah good idea. Saves posters from asking why so and so was banned if they missed what happened. Also, sets a precedent for future banning and others could see what could lead to a ban and for how long. This issue may be too much of a "hot button " topic on here? If Mods decide that certain topics and certain massaging should be monitored (and I 100% agree that it should), then posters that exceed boundaries the mods put in place SHOULD be permabanned if necessary and temporary banned if the greater good thinks they may offer useful discussion regarding the Blue Jays.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted April 8, 2024 Author Posted April 8, 2024 Also, there should be no "patient, let's see what happens. When a new troll comes out of the ether and say the same crap from banned accounts before them Mainstay dudes on this site hate all the bogus accounts that pile on them. Let's decide on what to do with trolls once and for all. Put me in charge. I am actually calm and centered when deciphering others motivations.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 They take care of this for the most part, everything is okay my dude.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 I think it's safe to assume that any new account is that crazy person.
mphenhef Verified Member Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 Would this risk causing more trolling? I could see trolls trying their hardest to make it onto the board as much as they can.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 It just wouldn't be helpful for a few reasons. Updating the list is one more thing the mods have to do. There is already a conglomerate of dorks who think it's their civic duty to ensure the mods are being fair and equitable. I think the list would just give them more to pick at. This really is not a formal legal system or anything. It's not helpful to try and establish precedents and so forth, that just ties the mods' hands when they need to deal with idiots in context. Suffice to say: 1. if someone got banned it is because they broke the rules which are pretty clear. 2. we are not in the business of slapping permanent bans on decent long-time posters. most bans of actual posters will be shorter term (days, maybe a week) unless they do something egregious or they are crossing the line all the time. 3. the mods are not under any obligation to be perfect or even impartial.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 Well, I can speak on this since I was just recently banned for a few weeks lol. It would be helpful to know what the lines are since I got banned for using the F word. I see so many other crazy things that are let go and obviously didn't know this word is crossing a line while everything else is allowed. I'm a simple man who watches South Park and there is one episode that perfectly outlines the context in how I meant to use the term. Regardless, not trying to make a massive deal here. I simply didn't know what words were not allowed and kinda wish I got a warning at least since that was the first time I probably used it on this board. Let's go Blue Jays!

Just remove that word from your vocabulary. I mean, you can continue to use that word and try to put it in some context that you think is acceptable, but it's inevitable that some may not see that context, or may not care what context it's used in and will take offense to it. I don't think it's such a powerful word that you NEED to continue using it. Some seem hellbent on "saving" words that they used to use - simply because they don't want people who are offended by those words to "win". It's a stupid fight. It doesn't take a lot of effort to just stop using words that offend people. It's a minor inconvenience when you think of all the suppression of certain groups over the past 50-80 years. Evolution of our society is a good thing. Welcome back! Edited April 11, 2024 by Brownie19

The last guy who got mad because he couldn't use f***ot in an "inoffensive" way on the forum got mad yesterday and insulted me by talking about how much I love taking dicks. Which jives with my preconceived notions about the "I don't mean it in a bad way" crowd.

Evolution of our society is a good thing. Welcome back! You kind of nailed it tbh. It's easier to see and discuss the context in person but another thing to do it on a message board. I honestly didn't know it was that bad considering the amount of crap gets posted here. Regardless, never meant to offend anyone to that extent and will move forward without saying it again. Just posting the Southpark clip that I found hilarious and my train of thought on the word lol.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 well, now you know i don't see how this is complicated! Those were a tough 10 days to not be able to bitch about the Jays lack of offense lol
